The vibrant city of Cape Town played host to an electrifying spectacle of athleticism and adrenaline as contestants from around the globe converged for the Converse Ult.X at Battery Park in the famous V&A Waterfront. The event saw the world’s top freestyle BMX riders and South Africa‘s best park skateboarders battling it out for supremacy in the African Champs.
Anthony Jeanjean (Fra) beat out Kevin Peraza (Mex) and Boyd Hilder (Aus) to successfully defend his Converse ULT.X BMX title. His winning run of 92,75 was cheered on by the crowds for his unique lines and style.
“I’m so happy to win this event again, it’s been a pretty good week with an amazing crowd, yeah, the sun is out and I’m really just happy to take the win again.”
said a jubilant Jeanjean
Jeremy Mallot (USA) took home the Pat Casey Best Trick award for his 180 Triple Tailwhip.
“This is one of the best events, everyone comes together and pushes it, it was a little windy towards the end, but we managed to make it work, and I’m so incredibly honoured to take home the Pat Casey Best Trick, this one was for him, and it was a trick he was an absolute legend at, so I’m glad that I stuck it. I took the slams for him and this one’s incredible man”
Emotions ran high by Mallot when describing this win,
It was an all Cape Town affair in the Converse ULT.X Skate final with Moses Adams edging out Ty Adams, and Ethan Cairns to claim his title.
“Everything went so well today, I’m grateful to have reached the finals through qualifiers and semi’s. I did my best, I’m at a loss for words, I’m a bit emotional at the moment, but really glad with the win. I want to thank my man overseas, Manny Santiago, for telling me to rock the boat. Thank you.”
Durban‘s Khule Ngubane ensured that Cape Town didn’t take a clean sweep in the skate disciples, winning the best trick for his Nollie Bigspin Back Lip over the rail.
“I’m super super stoked to win the best trick, it’s an awesome way to start the new year, a big shout out to all the brands that supported this event to make it happen!”
