Roczen Becomes Fourth Different Winner of 2026 as Deegan Extends 250SMX Dominance

Round 5 of the 2026 Monster Energy SMX World Championship delivered high emotion and championship drama inside a record-breaking State Farm Stadium crowd in Glendale, Arizona. The night reshaped the early title fight as Ken Roczen surged to victory in the 450SMX Class, while Haiden Deegan continued his remarkable run in the Western Divisional 250SMX Class with a fourth consecutive win.

Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki’s Ken Roczen became the fourth different winner in five races with an impressive performance in Glendale.

Roczen Rises Amid Early Chaos

The 450SMX Class Main Event opened with immediate drama. After briefly trailing holeshot leader Vince Friese, Honda HRC Progressive’s Hunter Lawrence moved to the front with Roczen and defending champion Cooper Webb in pursuit. Championship leader Eli Tomac, meanwhile, was caught in a first-turn incident with Christian Craig that sent the Red Bull KTM rider to the ground and forced him to restart from 22nd place.

With his fourth straight runner-up finish Honda HRC Progressive’s Hunter Lawrence has moved atop the 450SMX Class standings for the first time.

Out front, Roczen steadily closed on Lawrence before making a decisive pass for the lead roughly four minutes into the race. From there, the Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki rider delivered a composed and controlled performance, stretching his advantage to several seconds and managing the gap through the closing laps.

One week after his first win of the season defending champion Cooper Webb finished third aboard his Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing machine.

Lawrence settled into second to secure his fourth straight runner-up finish, while Webb completed the podium in third after losing touch with the lead duo midway through the race. Behind them, Tomac mounted an impressive recovery ride, slicing through the field to salvage 12th place and limit the damage in the championship standings.

Roczen crossed the line 3.3 seconds clear to earn the 24th victory of his career and extend his streak of winning seasons to seven. The triumph carried deep emotional weight following news that longtime team manager Larry Brooks had stepped away to undergo cancer treatment.

“This feels unreal… I want to dedicate this win specifically to Larry. He loves this more than anybody. This one goes out to him.”

Ken Roczen:

Lawrence’s consistency proved equally significant. The Australian’s runner-up result handed him the red plate for the first time in the premier division, giving him a five-point championship lead over Roczen, with Tomac now eight points back in third.

Deegan Goes Wire-to-Wire for Fourth Straight Win

In the Western Divisional 250SMX Class, Haiden Deegan delivered another commanding performance that further cemented his status as the rider to beat in 2026.

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan went wire-to-wire for his fourth straight Western Divisional 250SMX Class victory.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider secured the holeshot and immediately built a multi-second advantage, controlling the race from start to finish in dominant wire-to-wire fashion. Behind him, Michael Mosiman initially held second while Cameron McAdoo and Ryder DiFrancesco battled for third.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Levi Kitchen impressed in a runner-up effort that saw him pass 17 riders in a climb from 19th to second.

The biggest charge of the race came from Levi Kitchen, who powered forward from 19th on the opening lap. The Kawasaki rider carved through the field, eventually passing both McAdoo and Mosiman to claim second with just over a lap remaining—and even began closing on Deegan late.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Cameron McAdoo earned his third podium finish in the past four races.

Despite Kitchen’s surge, Deegan remained untouchable, securing his fourth straight victory and the 11th win of his career by 4.1 seconds. Kitchen’s remarkable comeback delivered consecutive runner-up finishes, while McAdoo completed the podium for the second race in a row.

“The hard work I put in this offseason paid off. It shows who works hard and who doesn’t.”

Haiden Deegan:

Championship Momentum Builds

Five rounds into the 2026 Supercross season, unpredictability defines the 450SMX title fight, with four different winners already emerging and the points lead changing hands. Roczen’s emotional Glendale triumph and Lawrence’s rise to the red plate signal a tightening championship battle—while Tomac prepares to respond.

In the 250SMX West, however, the story is clear: Haiden Deegan is in complete control. With four straight victories and a growing points advantage, the defending champion has established early dominance as the season pushes deeper into its stadium run.
