The world’s most progressive big air mountain bike event is back. Darkfest 2026 marks the 10th edition of the legendary freeride spectacle in Stellenbosch, South Africa — and this milestone year promises the biggest upgrades yet.
While founder Sam Reynolds sadly couldn’t attend the start of the build due to a family medical emergency, he confirmed his daughter is now recovering at home. With the course in trusted hands, the build team has stepped up to deliver what could be the most ambitious Darkfest yet.
Taking charge of the build is Theo Erlangsen, who wasted no time revealing the bold new features planned for 2026. Riders can expect the return of fan-favourite features including the 90, the 110, the Big Step Up, the Rockets, and the quarter pipe — all refined for even more speed and height.
What’s New for 2026?
A Mega Second Rocket Launch
The headline addition is a brand-new, oversized takeoff lip alongside the iconic Rocket. This new line allows riders to carry full speed from the step-up landing, bypass the traditional drop, and send it into what could be the biggest airtime jump ever attempted on a mountain bike.
Course Refinements for Maximum Air
The step-up landing and shark fin section are being reworked to allow for steeper, smoother landings — meaning riders can go higher with more confidence.
The Dewalt Loco Zone
In honour of Spanish freeride star Adolf Silva, the team is building a dedicated wooden viewing deck at the legendary step-up. Supported by Dewalt tools, the “Loco Lounge” will give riders and spectators the ultimate vantage point to watch the action while enjoying ice-cold refreshments.
The Build Crew Behind the Madness
South Africa’s renowned Trails Crew returns to shape the massive features, fine-tuning everything from the 90 landing to the quarter pipe rebuild. With machines arriving and serious dirt-moving underway, the transformation of the ridge line into a high-speed mega launch zone is already in motion.
Adding to the excitement, fan-favourite builder Clemens Kaudela (aka “Seadog”) is set to join the crew, bringing his signature precision to the colossal new rocket extension.
A Decade of Big Air Progression
To celebrate 10 years of record-breaking sends, the first episode wraps with a montage of unforgettable moments from the past nine editions — a reminder of just how far Darkfest has pushed the limits of mountain biking.
With upgraded features, a brand-new mega line, and the strongest build crew yet, Darkfest 2026 is shaping up to be the most explosive edition in its history.
Episode two promises even more as machines roll in and the new rocket begins to take shape.
