Hunter Lawrence Dominates Birmingham as Title Lead Grows

Round 10 of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross season marked a powerful return after the break, with Hunter Lawrence delivering a commanding performance at Protective Stadium. The Honda HRC Progressive rider secured back-to-back victories and further strengthened his grip on the 450SMX championship.

A huge crowd welcomed the Monster Energy Supercross Championship to Birmingham’s Protective Stadium for Round 10 of the 2026 season.

In the 250SMX Class, the highly anticipated East/West Showdown produced drama, as Haiden Deegan crossed the line first but was later penalized, handing the victory to Cole Davies.

Lawrence in a League of His Own

The 450SMX Main Event began with Jorge Prado grabbing the holeshot, but Lawrence wasted no time asserting control. He quickly passed Prado and set a relentless pace at the front.

Honda HRC Progressive’s Hunter Lawrence captured his third win in the last four races with arguably the best performance of his career.

Behind him, a fierce battle unfolded between Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen. Roczen, who started deep in the pack, charged through the field and eventually moved into second after dispatching Tomac.

en route to an impressive runner-up finish.

Despite Roczen’s late push, lapped traffic prevented him from closing the gap significantly. Lawrence remained composed out front and secured his third win in the last four races, crossing the line 2.3 seconds ahead of Roczen.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Eli Tomac overcame a trip to the LCQ
to finish on the podium in third.

Tomac salvaged third after a difficult evening that included a rare LCQ appearance following a Heat Race incident with Justin Cooper.

Championship Picture Tightens

With the victory, Lawrence extended his championship lead to nine points over Tomac. Roczen’s sixth podium of the season moved him into third overall, though he remains 31 points off the lead.

“It feels good. I’m just taking it one race at a time and staying focused. Anything can happen, so I’m happy to be up here.”

East/West Showdown Ends in Controversy

The 250SMX East/West Showdown delivered one of the most exciting races of the season. Early on, Levi Kitchen and Davies battled intensely for the lead, trading positions multiple times.

As the race progressed, Jo Shimoda and Seth Hammaker joined the fight, while Deegan charged from 10th place to contend for victory.

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies (37) was awarded the East/West Showdown victory after a penalty was assessed to teammate Haiden Deegan.

In the closing stages, Deegan surged past both Shimoda and Davies to take the lead and crossed the finish line first in a spectacular comeback ride.

Even though he took the checkered flag, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan was relegated to second after a penalty for cutting the track.

However, post-race review revealed that Deegan made an illegal lane shift through a split-lane section, resulting in a one-position penalty. This handed the win to Davies, with Deegan classified second and Hammaker promoted to third after a late mistake from Shimoda.

Davies Gains Momentum in Title Fight

The inherited victory proved crucial for Davies, who now leads the Eastern Divisional standings by six points over Hammaker, with Shimoda nine points back in third.

Deegan, despite the penalty, continues to dominate the Western Divisional standings with a commanding 42-point lead over Max Anstie, while Kitchen sits third.

Momentum Builds Heading Into Next Round

With Lawrence in peak form and the 250SMX title fights heating up across both divisions, Birmingham delivered a pivotal moment in the 2026 season.

As the championship heads into its next phase, consistency and discipline will be key—especially after a night where even a race-winning performance could be undone by a costly mistake.
