Hunter Lawrence Grabs Championship Momentum in Denver to Set Up Final Showdown, Haiden Deegan Continues Reign of Dominance in 250SMX West Division

The 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship delivered yet another pivotal moment in its historic season as Round 16 unfolded in the Mile High City. A packed crowd inside Empower Field at Mile High witnessed a dramatic shift in momentum in one of the closest 450SMX Class title fights ever, setting up a winner-take-all finale.

Empower Field at Mile High was the setting for the latest chapter in what has been a captivating and historic season of Monster Energy Supercross.

450SMX Class: Lawrence Strikes at the Perfect Moment

With everything on the line, Honda HRC Progressive’s Hunter Lawrence rose to the occasion with a commanding performance that shifted the championship narrative heading into the final round.

The 20-minute-plus-one-lap Main Event began with Jorge Prado grabbing the holeshot ahead of Lawrence and returning hometown hero Eli Tomac. Cooper Webb and points leader Ken Roczen followed closely behind.

Honda HRC Progressive’s Hunter Lawrence captured a dominant and crucial victory in the historically close 450SMX Class title fight.

Lawrence wasted no time, making an aggressive move to take the lead on Lap 2. Once out front, he capitalized on the clear track to build a significant gap, forcing Roczen to push forward through the pack. Roczen methodically climbed into second after passing Webb and Prado but faced a growing deficit.

Behind the leaders, Tomac thrilled the home crowd with a determined comeback after an early stall dropped him down the order. He battled his way back into podium contention, engaging in a spirited fight with Webb and Prado before securing third.

Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki’s Ken Roczen maintained his slim hold of the red place with a runner-up finish.

Out front, Lawrence was untouchable. He extended his advantage to nearly 10 seconds and ultimately crossed the line 13.2 seconds ahead of Roczen to claim his fifth win of the season.

The result dramatically tightened the championship battle, with just a single point separating Lawrence and Roczen heading into the Salt Lake City finale. Both riders are tied on five wins and 12 podiums, setting the stage for a historic, winner-take-all showdown between two international stars.

Tomac’s third-place finish marked the 111th podium of his career, tying him with Supercross legend Jeremy McGrath for second on the all-time list.

250SMX West: Deegan’s Dominance Continues

Although the Western Divisional 250SMX Class title had already been decided, all eyes remained on Haiden Deegan as he continued his remarkable season.

The Main Event saw Deegan and teammate Max Anstie exit the first turn side-by-side, with Anstie briefly grabbing the holeshot before Deegan took control. From there, Deegan delivered another flawless ride, quickly building a multi-second lead.

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan’s first race as West Division Champion featured a dominant performance for his seventh win of the season.

Behind him, Levi Kitchen surged into second, while Ryder DiFrancesco secured third after a series of passes shuffled the order.

Deegan maintained complete control throughout the race, managing his lead and navigating the challenging Denver track with ease. He cruised to his seventh win of the season—more than any rider in 2026—by 3.5 seconds over Kitchen.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Levi Kitchen went unchallenged on the way to a second-place finish.

The victory marked Deegan’s 14th career 250SMX Class win, moving him into third on the all-time list, and further solidified Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s record-breaking season with a 15th class win.

With the championship already secured, Deegan now heads into the East/West Showdown in Salt Lake City aiming to cap off one of the most dominant seasons in 250SMX history.
