SA Olympian Drops Into Ballito Bowl

South Africa‘s Olympic skateboarding star Brandon Valjalo is set to return to the iconic Ballito Bowl this Saturday, 11 July 2026, as he headlines the O’Neill Ballito Pro Skate Jam, one of the most anticipated action sports events on the Ballito Pro Presented by O’Neill calendar.

After walking away with the Best Trick title in 2025, Valjalo is back to take on some of South Africa‘s finest skateboarders in a competition that promises high-flying tricks, technical runs and non-stop entertainment.

With R30,000 in prize money available across the Groms and Open divisions, spectators can expect an afternoon packed with elite skateboarding at one of the country’s most respected skate bowls.

Brandon Valjalo Returns

As South Africa‘s pioneering Olympic skateboarder, Brandon Valjalo continues to inspire a new generation of athletes. While he has built an international reputation through street skateboarding, his smooth style and technical ability make him one of the favourites to impress at the Ballito Bowl.

Fans can also look forward to the popular Best Trick contest, while dedicated Best Girl prizes and cash incentives continue encouraging greater female participation in the sport.

More Than Just a Competition

According to organiser Markus Müseler of OSP Events Co., the Ballito Pro Skate Jam has evolved into much more than a contest.

Each year, skateboarders from across South Africa gather in Ballito to reconnect, share their passion for skateboarding, and push each other’s progression in an atmosphere built around community and creativity.

O’Neill Brand Director Paul Canning says the Skate Jam perfectly reflects the spirit of the Ballito Pro, bringing together surfing, skateboarding, youth culture and entertainment in one unforgettable festival experience.

Newly Revamped Ballito Bowl Ready for Action

This year’s competition arrives after the Ballito Bowl received significant upgrades through the Spark Up the Park – Skate Bowl Rehabilitation Initiative.

Supported by RE/MAX Dolphin Coast, SJC Projects, Linc College, Elogen, KwaDukuza Municipality, Maraschino, Skull Candy, Checkers, Rise Up Foundation and several local businesses, the refurbishment has restored one of South Africa‘s premier skateboarding venues to top condition.

Its steep transitions and fast lines continue to challenge even the country’s best riders, making every run exciting for spectators.

A Festival Packed With Action

The O’Neill Ballito Pro Skate Jam forms part of the wider Ballito Pro Presented by O’Neill, taking place from 4 to 18 July 2026 at Willard Beach.
