The X Games is set to make history with the introduction of Spotlight Events, an exciting new competition platform debuting at the MoonPay X Games League Championship in New Orleans. Designed to showcase emerging action sports disciplines and innovative competition formats, Spotlight Events will give athletes and fans the opportunity to influence what could become permanent fixtures in future X Games competitions.
The inaugural Spotlight Events will feature two groundbreaking contests at the Caesars Superdome. On Friday, 24 July, the Bluff Men’s Scooter Park Best Trick competition will mark the first-ever scooter event in X Games history, while Stake Men’s Skateboard Park Best Trick will take place on Saturday, 25 July, highlighting some of the world’s best park skateboarders.
Unlike traditional competitions, Spotlight Events are designed as a testing ground for new disciplines and formats. Athlete participation, fan engagement and community support will determine whether these events become permanent additions to future X Games calendars and potentially the MoonPay X Games League.
Fans watching the ESPN broadcast will also play a key role by voting on each Spotlight Event, giving the global action sports community a direct voice in shaping the future of X Games.
“Progression has always been the heartbeat of X Games. Spotlight Events are our way of testing what’s next, but what happens after New Orleans is up to our fans. If you want Scooter Park Best Trick or Skateboard Park Best Trick to become permanent parts of X Games, make your voice impossible to ignore.”
said X Games CEO Jeremy Bloom
The historic scooter competition will feature the world’s top riders attempting their biggest and most technical tricks in a high-energy, winner-take-all format.
Freestyle scooter pioneer and 16-time X Games BMX medalist Ryan Williams welcomed the opportunity.
“Scooter has reached an unbelievable level, and the tricks being done today deserve a stage like X Games. It’s exciting to see Spotlight Events open the door for more athletes and more disciplines to be part of the future of action sports.”
Meanwhile, the Men’s Skateboard Park Best Trick contest will showcase elite skateboarders pushing the limits of progression with never-before-seen tricks.
Five-time X Games medalist and two-time Olympic champion Keegan Palmer believes the new format perfectly reflects what skateboarding is all about.
“Park Best Trick creates another stage for those moments; the kind that inspires the next generation and reminds everyone why X Games is where progression happens.”
Beyond the new Spotlight Events, the MoonPay X Games League Championship will bring together the world’s best skateboard and BMX athletes to compete for the inaugural league title while celebrating the culture, creativity and progression that define action sports.
The addition of Spotlight Events represents another step in X Games‘ continued evolution, providing a launchpad for new disciplines while allowing the global action sports community to help determine the future of the competition.
