The MoonPay X Games League Championship Goes Down to the Wire in New Orleans
The inaugural MoonPay X Games New Orleans 2026 Championship is set for a thrilling finale after a dramatic Day Two saw XC New York surge into the lead of the MoonPay X Games League (XGL) standings.
With one day of competition remaining inside the iconic Caesars Superdome, XC New York sits on top with 2,280 points, narrowly ahead of XC Tokyo’s 2,260 points. XC São Paulo remains firmly in contention with 2,120 points, while XC Los Angeles still has an outside shot at glory on 2,050 points.
The biggest moment of the day came in the final event when Australian skateboarding star Chloe Covell, the number one overall pick in the inaugural XGL Draft, delivered gold in Monster Energy Women’s Skateboard Street, propelling XC New York into first place and setting up an unforgettable championship decider.
Chloe Covell Delivers When It Matters Most
Covell once again proved why she was selected first overall, producing a gold medal performance under pressure to move her team into the lead.
The victory marked Covell’s 12th career X Games medal, tying Brazilian legend Leticia Bufoni for the most medals by a woman in X Games summer disciplines. The Australian sensation now has seven gold medals and has earned podium finishes in eight of her nine X Games Street appearances.
Adding to XC New York’s charge was teammate Momiji Nishiya, who claimed silver, giving the club a crucial points boost in the race for the inaugural XGL title.
Japan’s Yumeka Oda secured bronze for XC Tokyo, ensuring the championship battle remains incredibly tight heading into the final day.
MVP Race Heads for Dramatic Finish
The race for the inaugural XGL MVP award is equally intense.
Japan’s Mizuho Hasegawa of XC Tokyo leads the standings with 600 points, while Brazilian prodigy Gui Khury of XC São Paulo sits second with 550 points.
Khury kept his hopes alive by winning MoonPay Men’s Skateboard Vert Best Trick, extending his incredible streak to eight consecutive gold medals in the discipline. The 17-year-old now owns 13 X Games gold medals and 20 career medals, making him the most successful teenager in X Games history.
For Hasegawa, bronze in Women’s Skateboard Vert Best Trick was enough to maintain her advantage. The 15-year-old now boasts 12 career X Games medals, matching Leticia Bufoni’s all-time record for women in summer disciplines.
Sunday’s final events will determine who takes home the first-ever MVP crown.
Mia Kretzer Continues Her Incredible Rise
Eleven-year-old Australian sensation Mia Kretzer added another historic moment to the weekend by winning MoonPay Women’s Skateboard Vert Best Trick with a never-been-done fakie body varial 720.
Already the youngest athlete, medalist and gold medalist in X Games history, Kretzer now owns seven career medals, including five in the 2026 season alone.
Her remarkable performances have made her one of the biggest surprises of the XGL Draft, contributing more than a quarter of XC Los Angeles’ total points tally.
Ryan Williams Adds More Gold
Australian BMX and scooter superstar Ryan Williams once again showcased his creativity, taking gold in the Stake Dave Mirra BMX Park Best Trick contest.
Williams landed “The Oliver Twist,” an alley-oop frontflip 540 flair dedicated to his late friend Oliver Tree, securing his 14th X Games gold medal and keeping his XGL MVP hopes alive.
With 17 career medals and millions of fans worldwide, Williams remains one of the biggest stars in action sports.
