From 29 May to 1 June, the sleepy Austrian mining town of Eisenerz transforms into the global epicenter of Hard Enduro as Red Bull Erzbergrodeo 2025 rolls in. This is Round 2 of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship, and it’s more than just a race — it’s a rite of passage for the brave.
Over 1,500 riders from around the world descend on Europe’s largest open-cast iron mine, each with a single mission: conquer Erzberg. But only 500 will qualify for Sunday’s legendary Red Bull Hare Scramble, a 35km gauntlet of boulders, steep forest climbs, and treacherous single track. Of those, only a few will ever taste the glory of crossing the finish line.
The Prologue: Mayhem on the Mountain
Friday and Saturday feature the infamous Iron Road Prologue, a 10-minute sprint up a network of twisting gravel roads leading to the top of the mountain. It’s fast, dusty, and full of surprises.
From 8am, the pros take off in pursuit of the best time, but it’s not just about elite athletes — it’s an all-day spectacle. You’ll see everything from 1,000cc road bikes and scooters, to men in swan costumes, all vying for a top-500 spot to make Sunday’s cut.
The Main Event: Red Bull Hare Scramble – 1 June
Sunday is where legends are made. The Red Bull Hare Scramble is widely regarded as the toughest single-day motorcycle race in the world. Just finishing it is a triumph.
Expect to see Hard Enduro superstars like Manuel Lettenbichler, Mario Roman, and Billy Bolt clash on terrain that chews up both man and machine. The Hare Scramble is brutal, unforgiving, and often unpredictable, with changing weather and terrain playing key roles in who survives — and who thrives.
