SUMMARY:TRAC SA National Rally
DESCRIPTION:It will be anything but dull when the final round of the 2023 SA National Rally Championship racing on MRF Tyres heads to the TRACN4 Rally in the Dullstroom\, Mpumalanga highlands over the weekend of 17 and 18 November. The title may be decided\, but that will not prevent the two last blasts in the dust from sealing what has been nothing less than a thrilling season with more than its fair share of twists in the plot along the way.\n\n\n\n\n\nEven though the dominant JJ Potgieter and Tommy du Toit and their Hyundai R4 are already crowned 2024  South African Rally Champions after once again winning both rounds last time out at Bronkhorstspruit\, the war is by no means over. The battle for second and third rages intensely on between Chris Coertse and Greg Godrich in their Rally Technic Mazda2\, and NRC 2 leaders\, Benjamin Habig and Barry White’s Just Tools Volkswagen Polo R2.\n\n\n\n\n\nHabig and White have been nothing short of sensational through the season\, as they pitted their front-wheel drive NRC2 car against the all-wheel drive NRC1 crews and largely acing it. The chase for second place overall may well have ended sooner\, had Habig and White not picked more than their fair share of issues along the way in the earlier rounds.\n\n\n\n\n\nHabig and White were not alone in their troubles. A Tzaneen crash dented Coertse and Godrich’s hopes to set the TRACN4 Dullstroom double-header up as a thrilling final arbiter in the points chase. All three crews will however also come under pressure from rivals crews who still have a point to prove\, since their title charges came to an end.\n\n\n\n\n\nAmong them\, Jono van Wyk and Nico Swartz\, and Mandla Mdakane and Kes Naidoo’s Gazoo Toyota Starlets will want to end the season with a win. As do Subaru crews\, Johan Strauss and Caro Storm\, and Paul van Niekerk and Willemjan Human. Gustav Potgieter and Carolyn Swan\, and Magriet Potgieter and Rikus Fourie’s Ford Fiestas and George Smalberger and Robbie Coetzee’s Polo are also among those keen to depose of Habig and White in NRC 2.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe fourth consecutive TRACN4 Rally\, this 2023 event boasts a strong local flavour for crews and spectators alike. Held in the eMakhazeni region famous for its touristic vibe and deep-rooted culture\, it is also the final leg of the National Rally Championship. Which happens to be the oldest consecutive championship in South African motorsport. \n\n\n\n\n\nAptly themed ‘Going All Out’\, this year’s TRACN4 Rally will deliver thirteen action-packed special stages over its two days. Most of them will run in the forests that envelop Dullstroom. Friday 17 November comprises six stages conveniently accessible from the Lakensvlei Heritage Site service park. Stages 1 and 3 are called Willem\, while the  SAFCOL Highway Stages 3 and 4 have all the makings of a World Rally Championship special.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe TRAC Challenge Stages 5 and 6 go beyond fast cars racing in the forests by supporting event beneficiary\, the Dullstroom Epilepsy Centre since 2020. Dullstroom also benefits from the TRAC E-Learning project and other corporate social investment interventions as part of the bigger eMakhazeni District.\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday’s service park moves to the Oval in Dullstroom. Seven stages kick off with SAFCOL Highway reversed\, which also hosts stage 3. Stages 2 and 4\, Henk runs in the S&N Timbers plantation opposite SAFCOL. The big ones\, stages 5 and 6 Lakenvlei are in the Belfast Plantation. Grand final Legends Stage 7 goes down behind the Dullstroom cemetery.\n\n\n\n\n\nPick a TRACN4 Rally Program up at the service park\, or follow their\, or the NRC’s social media for special spectator point info. The TRACN4 Rally South African Rally Championship powerd by MRF Tyres prizegiving will be at the Dullstroom Epilepsy Centre. All proceeds from the rally will be donated to the Centre\, which plays a pivotal role in the lives of people with epilepsy and their families in rural Mpumalanga.

SUMMARY:South African Rally Championship 2023 – Bronkhorstspruit\, Gauteng
DESCRIPTION:While JJ Potgieter and Tommy du Toit hold a sizeable lead in the South African National Rally Championship powered by MRF Tyres\, both men understand full well that anything can\, and probably will happen in rallying. All of which makes the Bronkhorstspruit double-header into a nail biter of note over the weekend of October 13 and 14! \n\n\n\nWith a maximum of 80 points on offer at Bronkhorstspruit\, and a similar tally also available at Dullstroom finale in November\, Hyundai R4 duo Potgieter and du Toit sit 85 points clear of their nearest title rivals. Their objective is therefore clearly to maintain\, or increase their advantage\, and wrap that title up this weekend. The rest of the pack will however want to cut that deficit\, and keep the title chase open into the finale. \n\n\n\nNRC1 all-wheel drive championship leaders JJ and Tommy have the additional advantage of their closest title rivals at this stage being Habig and Barry White in their front-wheel drive NRC2 class leading Just Tools Volkswagen Polo. Closest NRC 1 rivals\, reigning South African Champions\, Chris Coertse and Greg Godrich sit a further ten points adrift in the Rally Technic Mazda2. \n\n\n\nCoertse and Godrich will be out to rack a significant points haul up at Bronkhorstspruit after a previous Tzaneen Rally crash left their Mazda looking somewhat worse for wear. \n\n\n\n “We are almost finished the rebuild and hope to test before the start. We must be sure that our shunt never left any hidden issues\, and also prepare to mount a serious challenge in Bronkies.” Coertse explained\n\n\n\nThird in the NRC 1 chase and fourth overall\, the Swazi Cowboy Jono van Wyk and Nico Swartz and their Gazoo Racing Toyota Starlet still have a mathematical chance of stealing the title. To achieve that would however mean a double disaster for the leaders. Jono and Nico’s title hopes took a knock when they suffered engine failure on Friday at Tzaneen\, and the team was unable to mend it in time for Saturday’s start. \n\n\n\nGazoo Racing Starlet teammates Mandla Mdakane Kes Naidoo however repaired their car after going out on that Tzaneen Friday. That allowed them to fight back on Saturday and close within five points of their teammates. \n\n\n\n “The team has rebuilt our car and added some new tweaks\, so it should be well sorted. Bronkhorstspruit will be fast and very exciting for the spectators\, and for us in the car too.” Kes Naidoo explained\n\n\n\nThe NRC2 battle tight. Ford Fiesta R2 crew Gustav Potgieter and Carolyn Swann sit 47 points off Habig and White in the chase\, but a mere five points clear of Gerald Klopper and Johan Aucamp’s Toyota Etios. They in turn hold a 13-point advantage over Nico and Juandre Nienaber’s similar car\, with lady driver Magriet Potgieter and Rikus Fourie’s Fiesta R2 another six points adrift\, following terminal engine issues in Tzaneen. \n\n\n\nThe Bronkhorstspruit Rally will as ever be run as two separate rounds of the championship. One full rally happens on Friday 13 October\, with a second rally on its own on Saturday. Not only does that provide many great spectator opportunities over the two days\, but it also throws hapless rally crews a chance to repair their cars overnight and return to action in a fresh round on Saturday. \n\n\n\nBoth days start at 10:45\, with stages 1\, 2\, 4 and 5 on the Vlakfontein Road off the R25. The famous Skietbaan stage offers great spectator opportunities on Rusfontein just off the R25 towards Groblersdal. Stages 3 and 6 will run close to the Witklip Farm Service Park on the Arbor Road.  \n\n\n\nCrews will complete just over 85 km on each day. National Competitors will rally 170 km over the two days\, with Northern Regions Regional Competitors joining Saturday’s rally for their 85 km fourth round. Follow sarallychamps on Facebook for more information and updates on the Bronkhorstspruit South African National Championship Rally powered by MRF Tyres.

SUMMARY:South African Rally Championship - Tzaneen Rally
DESCRIPTION:It will be a matter of three plays one\, when the South African National Rally Championship heads to the stunning Merensky Forest for a tough weekend of rallying at the NTT Tzaneen double-header around the Limpopo town over the weekend of 25-26 August. \n \nJJ Potgieter and Tommy du Toit’s Hyundai R4 leads the charge to the bushveld town after winning three of the four National rounds so far. In essence still NRC1 rookies\, Potgieter and du Toit only celebrate their first year in the top class this weekend\, after debuting at this rally last year. Another rookie NRC1 duo\, Jono van Wyk and Nico Swartz’ Toyota Gazoo Racing Starlet halted their unbeaten run when they claimed the Round 4 win in the Eastern Cape. \n \n“Tzaneen certainly is a favourite for Jono\,” navigator Swartz explains. “He won his class here before\, the whole team is brimming with confidence after our win last time out\, we have a good car and a good team\, and the plan is to win both rounds outright!” The forests around Tzaneen however present their own challenges. \n \n“The roads are rough and narrow\, so this one’s a lot more technical than other national rallies\, and ambition can easily outweigh ability. “So we will be careful in our approach and must look after the car.” No easy task\, considering Potgieter and du Toit won’t relinquish that advantage without a fight and will be pushing hard for victory in both rounds after taking a day win on debut here last year\n \nChris Coertse and Greg Godrich are celebrating a year of rallying in their Rally Technik Mazda2. Always on the pace and ready to capitalize on any mistakes\, the reigning South African Rally Champions will be looking to break their 2023 duck after taking perhaps a little too cautious\, but still a consistent and points-scoring approach so far this season.\n \nThe fourth crew in the equation\, Toyota Gazoo circuit racing refugee Mandla Mdakane and Kes Naidoo showed significant pace in the second Toyota Gazoo Racing Starlet in the Eastern Cape\, after engine issues stopped them in the opening two rounds. They ended second on the second Jeffrey’s Bay day and are out to make the Tzaneen event count. “We’d love to finish in Tzaneen with another Toyota 1-2\,” Swartz grinned.\n \nTzaneen loves rallying and the NTT Rally is one of the bushveld town’s major annual attractions. “Support from the Tzaneen Community\, be it business\, the local council\, traffic department\, SAPS or just the rally fan in town is just phenomenal\,” National Rally Championship Administrator\, event organizer and Clerk of Course William Louw explains.\n \n“Tzaneen has been part of South African Rally history of in SA for many a year\, so we are most excited go back there for a second consecutive National and Regional event. The local community has been remarkable\, businesses have rallied around the local organizing team and competitors are in full prep mode to ready their machines. We thank each and every one who has contributed to make the NTT Tzaneen Rally possible!”\n \nFriday’s Round 5 features seven tests\, starting with the 4.6 km Mineshaft stage. Four Merensky Forest stages follow in the 12 km NTT Honda Agatha 1\, 31 km NTT Isuzu Dam\, 16 km PPS Pipeline and 12 km Honda Agatha 2. Friday concludes with two thrilling evening runs of the popular 1.5 km NTT Toyota Twister in the centre of Tzaneen. Regional cars will join the action there\, with quickest crews starting last.\n \nSaturday’s full national and regional Round 6 starts with the superb 5.9 km Supaquick Testing Centre spectator stage and another 12 km run over CIM Lubri Fuel Agatha 3. Crews then face two runs of 31 km NTT Isuzu Dam 1 and 2\, each side the 16 km PPS Pipeline test. NTT Rally Tzaneen concludes with the 2.7 km Star Spare Finale spectator stage from gravel onto tar at the spectator friendly Tzaneen Showgrounds Rally HQ and the Service Park.\n \nFind out more and follow The NTT Tzaneen Rally on Facebook or the www.nrcsa.co.za website. See you in Tzaneen for a spectacular weekend of rallying 25-26 August!

SUMMARY:South African Rally Championship Round 3 & 4
DESCRIPTION:With the dust hardly settled from the thrilling season opening Billy te Water Memorial Secunda Rally\, the South African National Rally Championship action now moves to the Eastern Cape and the Longmore Forest for the Algoa National Rally. The tough double-header rally will test crews to the limit over the weekend of 7 and 8 July.\n\n\n\n\n\nThose first two rounds of the 2023 championship saw high speeds and exceptionally close times between the top three over both days. The Algoa Rally’s Eastern Cape forest stages however bring a different kind of challenge.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“I love rallying in the forests\,”. “The only problem is so far in my career; I have never finished a rally in Longmore Forest! I am however really looking forward to this one.”\n\nchampionship leader JJ Potgieter admits\n\n\n\n\n\n“This will also be my first time in Longmore in the R4 Hyundai\, which is much quicker than my previous car\, so it will be a huge test made a little more difficult because we have to run on Dunlop tyres for this event\, which are a slightly softer compound than the MRF tyres that we normally use.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLog leader Potgieter starts as a favourite to spray the winner’s champagne come Friday and Saturday evening. His biggest challenge for that honour should come from NRC1 rivals\, reigning champion Chris Coertse’s Rally Technik Mazda2\, 2021 champion Theuns Joubert’s Salom Toyota Yaris and Gazoo Toyota Starlet duo\, Jono van Wyk and Mandla Mdkane. \n\n\n\n\n\nBenjamin Habig’s Just Tools Volkswagen Polo is the car to beat in R2 NRC2. He will have Gerald Klopper’s Toyota Etios\, Magriet and Gustav Potgieter’s Ford Fiestas\, and George Smalberger’s Shield VW Polo among his adversaries. The National Championship event will be supported by a strong of 30-car Algoa Rally Club Championship field. Organisers expect a minimum of 40 cars to make the start.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Algoa Rally starts 11h30 on Friday 7th July\, with the local Traffic Department leading a motorcade through Jeffreys Bay to Mentors Country Lodge. Stage action kicks off with the spectator friendly Mentors rugby field stage at 12h00. Crews then head to the daunting Longmore Forest that will as ever challenge the brave with high speeds\, sheer drops\, and a hard\, loose surface. \n\n\n\n\n\nFour gravel stages will offer great viewing in close proximity for spectator convenience. Organisers have thrown in some curve balls for the National competitors this year. First off\, the Culturama stage will run at night. That’s one not to be missed!  Full rally lights are required for Friday’s final stage\, which will once again be a short Mentors gravel sprint.\n\n\n\n\n\nDay 2 is a completely new event on Saturday 8 July. That allows crews who may have hit trouble on Friday\, to start without any penalty on Saturday. Kicking off with a Mentors Country Lodge stage a 08:00\, four more special tests follow in the Longmore Forests. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe organisers’ second surprise is to extend Saturday’s infamous penultimate Culturama stage to a whopping 37km monster. Culturama will likely determine the winners for each day. The Algo Rally concludes with the final Mentors Kraal stage at 16h20 followed by the winners’ ceremonial champagne finish at 17h00.\n\n\n\n\n\nSpectators can find more info on stage times and best viewing opportunities via the ‘Algoa Rally Club’ Facebook page.
