SUMMARY:FIA World Rallycross Championship 2024 - Sweden\, Höljes
DESCRIPTION:The FIA World Rallycross Championship is pleased to present its 2024 calendar\, with the exhilarating dual-surface action set to bring fans to their feet as the eagerly-anticipated new ‘Battle of Technologies’ races into life.\n\n\n\n\n\nFor the first time in World RX history\, the cutting-edge electric RX1e cars – introduced two years ago – will go doorhandle-to-doorhandle with their sustainably-fuelled RX1 combustion counterparts as they rejoin the fray. This will add another fascinating dimension and an intriguing twist to what is already one of the most thrilling forms of motorsport on the planet.\n\n\n\n\n\nRatified by today’s FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting\, the 2024 schedule features five double-header fixtures totalling ten rounds\, preceded by a standalone FIA European Rallycross Championship curtain-raiser on 8-9 June at Essay in northern France – a circuit that last hosted Euro RX more than a decade ago.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe World Championship then kicks off at Höljes’ legendary ‘Magic Weekend’ in Sweden (6-7 July) – selected as the best event of 2023 at the recent FIA Off-Road Prize-Giving ceremony.\n\n\n\n\n\nThree weeks later\, competitors will head to Hungary\, as Nyirád’s famous ‘Red Cauldron’ – which has welcomed Euro RX for the past two seasons – steps up to World Championship level for the first time on 27-28 July.\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo popular World RX venues follow\, in the shape of Mettet in Belgium (17-18 August) and Montalegre in Portugal (7-8 September)\, before the series travels overseas. Discussions are ongoing to add an event in Asia to the calendar in the autumn\, ahead of a new season finale in Australia on 30 November – 1 December.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis will mark the first time the championship has set foot ‘Down Under’\, as World RX continues to explore new territories following its spectacular city-centre debut in Hong Kong last November.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“We’re excited to officially present the 2024 FIA World Rallycross Championship calendar. A huge amount of hard work has gone into putting this schedule together\, and we must thank all of our stakeholders for their earnest efforts and support.\n\n\n\n\n\n“With a mixture of traditional rallycross favourites such as Höljes\, Montalegre and Mettet\, a very well-deserved promotion for Nyirád following two excellent European Championship events\, a maiden visit to Australia and a return to France\, we have a truly global and compelling calendar sure to whet the appetite of competitors and fans alike – and one befitting of such a landmark season as the ‘Battle of Technologies’ gets underway in style.\n\n\n\n\n\n“We are looking forward to seeing the RX1e cars back in action for the first time since last summer\, and curious to discover how they compare against the sustainably-fuelled combustion cars on the grid. As we all know in rallycross\, there will be absolutely no quarter given.\n\n\n\n\n\n“Looking further ahead\, we are already in the advanced stages of finalising next year’s plans\, with even more interest from major new markets\, so we look forward to confirming and presenting the 2025 World RX dates in due course.”\n\nArne Dirks\, Managing Director\, Rallycross Promoter GmbH\, said:\n\n\n\n\n2024 FIA World Rallycross Championship Calendar\n\n\n\n\n\nJune 8-9 Euro RX of France\, Essay (Euro RX only)\nJuly 6-7 World RX of Sweden\, Höljes\nJuly 27-28 World RX of Hungary\, Nyirád *\nAugust 17-18 World RX of Benelux\, Mettet\nSeptember 7-8 World RX of Portugal\, Montalegre\nNovember 30 – December 1 World RX of Australia\, TBA *\n\n\n\n\n\n* Subject to circuit homologation

SUMMARY:2024 FIA World Rally Championship: Secto Rally Finland
DESCRIPTION:Challenge \n\nA mix of hard\, wide roads with narrower more technical sections.\n\n\nFlat out from start to finish. It is affectionately known as the Finnish Grand Prix and nine of the 10 fastest WRC rallies have been here.\n\n\nPace notes must be perfect. Blind crests often hide corners and it’s vital to position the car correctly before take-off to ensure maximum speed through the bend.\n\n\nSpeeds are so high that time differences are small and there is little opportunity to regain vital seconds after a mistake.\n\n\nOne of the hardest rallies for co-drivers as high speeds demand a constant\, pinpoint accurate delivery of pace notes.\n\n\nMastering the jumps. If the speed is too high\, the car’s aerodynamics will force the back down and the front will rise. The tactic is to brake before take-off and accelerate full throttle over the jump.\nAdapting from a traditional summer rally to autumn\, when the smooth roads could offer exceptional grip or wet weather could bring softer and rougher conditions.\n\n  \nCar spec \n\nGravel suspension.\n\n\nPirelli’s soft compound Scorpion tyres will be the template choice\, but hard compound rubber is also available.\n\nService park \n\nBased in central Jyväskylä’s Paviljonki exhibition centre. WRC teams will line up in the ‘main street’ near the harbour\, with support category teams indoors. Paviljonki is just a few minutes walk from the city’s shops\, bars and restaurants.\n\nEvent History \n\nDates back to 1951 when it was launched as a means of deciding the Finnish entries for Rallye Monte-Carlo.\n\n\nIt took on the name 1000 Lakes Rally and was included in the calendar for the WRC in its first year in 1973.\n\n\nIt has been dominated by Finnish drivers who have won 55 of the 70 editions. Top of the roll of honour are Hannu Mikkola and Marcus Grönholm with seven wins.\n\n\nThe 2016 edition was the fastest rally in WRC history. Kris Meeke won at an average speed of 126.62kph.
