Cape Town, get ready to feel the heat of the streets! Red Bull Half Court is launching its South African debut in the Mother City on Saturday, 12 July 2025, marking the first stop in a nationwide journey to crown Mzansi’s streetball kings and queens.
As part of the global Red Bull Half Court tour – known for being the fastest and most creative 3-on-3 basketball tournament on the planet – the Cape Town qualifier sets the tone for what promises to be an explosive season of urban basketball action.
Streetball with a Twist
Unlike traditional formats, Red Bull Half Court thrives on intensity, speed, and swagger. The tournament introduces a unique “Own the Court” scoring rule: teams can advance not only by winning games but also by scoring the most total points in their group. It’s not just about surviving – it’s about dominating.
With global sponsors Fila and Spalding on board, and the flair of international athlete Chris “Lethal Shooter” Matthews fuelling the excitement, Red Bull Half Court combines competition with creativity, making it the ultimate showcase of urban basketball culture.
Why Cape Town Matters
The Cape Town qualifier is the launchpad for South Africa’s involvement in the global series. From here, top teams will move on to compete in regional rounds in Durban and Pretoria, before heading to the South African National Final in Johannesburg on 13 September 2025.
Winners from the men’s and women’s categories will represent South Africa at the World Final in Dubai this November, competing against elite streetball teams from more than 20 countries.
