Red Bull athlete and renowned South African BMX rider Murray Loubser has recently completed a captivating BMX project in Taiwan. Known for his extraordinary skills and adventurous spirit, Loubser’s latest venture took him to the bustling cities and urban jungles of Taiwan, offering a unique blend of cultural exploration and BMX mastery.

Reflecting on the experience, Loubser describes filming the project in Taiwan as nothing short of amazing.
“To film a BMX project in Taiwan along with a diverse crew of people was an amazing experience! The local BMX riders Robin, Allan, and Chiao showed us around the city’s urban jungle, guiding us to amazing street spots, night markets, restaurants, and so much more. It was a surreal experience to see the culture and so many different parts of Taiwan’s bustling cities!”

Every BMX adventure comes with its highlights and challenges, and Taiwan was no different for Loubser.
“Pedalling through a new city with all its intrigue and surprises waiting around every corner is always a highlight for me! Watching Bruno and the dudes land their tricks was a treat. At the end of each day, we would play cards outside a 7-Eleven, drink beers, have banter, and have a lot of fun,”.

However, the journey was not without its obstacles.
“The number of spots in Taiwan was amazing, literally so much to ride. The only problem was that security was tight, and CCTV cameras were everywhere! So, if you tried to ride somewhere you are not really supposed to ride a bike, the cops would pitch up pretty fast and give the cross-armed signal to leave! This made filming somewhat tricky. The humidity also got me sweating buckets, but I’d choose that over the cold any day.”
Comparing the BMX scene in Taiwan to other places, especially South Africa, Loubser found a striking similarity.
“The Taiwan BMX scene seemed pretty tight-knit, core, and small. It reminded me of the BMX community back home in SA. A diverse group of people who have a BMX bike making them family.”
The unique spots scouted by the team left Loubser eager to ride.
“When I saw the spots, I couldn’t wait to ride, literally a kid in a candy shop.”
“The concept of the trip in my eyes was to travel to a country none of us had ever been to before. Boot around its cities by train, cab, and bike. Exploring the different areas, foods, and sights. Seeing as much diversity as possible, while riding our bikes and filming tricks on the spots Taiwan had to offer us. All the while having a good time.”
Explaining the concept behind the project, Loubser says,
Loubser hopes this project will inspire BMX riders and viewers alike.
“I hope people enjoy the video as a piece of moving art. The team really kills it behind the camera, and well, we try our best in front of it. I hope it gives people the urge to go out and ride their bikes, see new places, and push themselves.”
Murray Loubser‘s BMX adventure in Taiwan stands as a testament to the fusion of athletic prowess, cultural immersion, and the unyielding spirit of exploration. Through his journey, he not only showcased his remarkable talent but also highlighted the rich, vibrant culture of Taiwan, inspiring a global audience to embrace the thrill of discovery and creativity on two wheels.
