The Red Bull KTM team had a phenomenal weekend during the 6th round of the National Motocross Championship held at Zone 7, Cape Town, this past weekend. The orange-clad team showcased their strength, securing multiple podium finishes and making significant strides towards the championship titles.
Cameron Durow Seals MX1 and MX2 Titles
Cameron Durow, a standout in the South African motocross scene, delivered an impeccable performance, securing victories in both the MX1 and MX2 classes. With his wins, Durow clinched both national championships with one race remaining, marking the second time he has secured both titles before the season’s end.
“It’s been a tough year with a lot of ups and downs. I’ve learned a lot and I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my dad, my girlfriend, KTM, and all my sponsors. These championships are dedicated to them.”

Trey Cox Extends Championship Lead
Young rider Trey Cox also had a stellar weekend, winning both heats in his class and extending his lead in the championship standings. Cox, who has been a consistent performer throughout the season, now heads into the final race with a comfortable 29-point lead.
“The weekend was another one for the books for me. I am so happy to go into the last race of the season with a solid amount of points. I’m excited for Round 7 and thankful for the opportunity to race for the Red Bull KTM team.”

Luke Grundy Battles Illness, Secures Second Overall
Despite facing illness on race day, Luke Grundy managed to secure a second-overall finish with a 4-2 result across his two motos. Though it wasn’t his best day, Grundy’s resilience earned him valuable points and kept him in contention for the final round.
“It wasn’t my best day, but I’m happy with the second-overall finish. I had some flu symptoms, but I’m grateful for the support of the Red Bull KTM team.”

Kerim Fitz-Gerald, the Red Bull KTM team manager, was full of praise for his riders.

Husqvarna Racing Team Faces Challenges at Zone 7
While the Red Bull KTM team celebrated their victories, the Husqvarna Racing team faced a more challenging weekend. The modified track layout and Cape Town’s unpredictable weather threw unexpected obstacles their way.
Davin Cocker had a tough weekend after injuring his knee during the first heat. Despite the injury, Cocker pushed through to finish and earn some points but had to take a cautious approach in the second heat, ultimately securing 7th overall for the weekend.
“It was a tough day for me. After injuring my knee, I just focused on getting around the track to secure some points.”

Barend du Toit experienced a mixed day, finishing second in the first heat but encountering difficulties in the second, which left him with a 4th overall for the weekend in the MX2 class.
50cc to MX3: Fierce Racing Across All Classes
The youngest riders in the 50cc class raced with no fear, and Riley Geldenhuys (#1, KTM) took the top spot, followed by Joshua-Zion Naude (#34, KTM) and Luan Jordaan (#20, KTM).
In the 65cc class, Brody Bircher (#30, KTM) claimed the win, while the 85cc class was dominated by Trenton Kretzmann (#94, KTM).
Trey Cox (#37, KTM) continued his winning streak in the 125cc class, and Kayla Raaff (#1, GasGas) secured victory in the Ladies class after a fierce battle with Leah Heygate (#176, KTM).
Dean Wheeler (#135, Yamaha) dominated the MX3 class, and the MX1 class saw Cameron Durow (#1, KTM) add another win to his impressive list of achievements for the weekend.
Looking Ahead to the Final Round
With over 120 entries and a lively crowd, the 6th round of the National Motocross Championship at Zone 7 was an exhilarating event. As the championship heads into the final round at Terra Topia in Gauteng on 12 October 2024, all eyes will be on the Red Bull KTM team to see if they can continue their dominance and finish the season on a high note.
