From the very first test session, things started unraveling. The Civic, which had just been tuned, was misfiring and sputtering its way around the circuit. “Plop-plop, fluttering everywhere,” was how one driver described it, hardly the confidence boost needed before a race.
Then came the real disaster—the wheel literally fell off, chewing through the fender and leaving the car in a sorry state. “Pretty f***ed,” was the blunt assessment. The Civic’s drivers, struggling with mechanical issues, were still hunting for seconds to shave off their 2:14 times.
With a new day ahead, optimism remained. “Tomorrow, 2:12, 2:11, we’re going to run together,” was the plan. But after a day like this, there were no guarantees. Redstar Raceway had thrown every problem imaginable at the Civic, and now it was a waiting game to see if the team could turn things around before the next session.
