It was supposed to be just another adrenaline-fueled day at Redstar Raceway, but for one unlucky Honda Civic, things went from bad to worse in a series of mechanical meltdowns, tuning troubles, and a catastrophic wheel failure.

From the very first test session, things started unraveling. The Civic, which had just been tuned, was misfiring and sputtering its way around the circuit. “Plop-plop, fluttering everywhere,” was how one driver described it, hardly the confidence boost needed before a race.

Then came the real disaster—the wheel literally fell off, chewing through the fender and leaving the car in a sorry state. “Pretty f***ed,” was the blunt assessment. The mood in the pits shifted from anticipation to frustration, with everyone scrambling to diagnose issues, from faulty alternator wiring to unpredictable ECU behavior.

Despite the setbacks, the team kept the humor alive, with jokes about whining drivers, ex-girlfriends, and questionable tuning decisions flying around. Meanwhile, the competition was running blistering lap times, with the fastest car on the day—a Nissan Primera—clocking a 2:09. The Civic’s drivers, struggling with mechanical issues, were still hunting for seconds to shave off their 2:14 times.

With a new day ahead, optimism remained. “Tomorrow, 2:12, 2:11, we’re going to run together,” was the plan. But after a day like this, there were no guarantees. Redstar Raceway had thrown every problem imaginable at the Civic, and now it was a waiting game to see if the team could turn things around before the next session.

After all, as they kept reminding themselves, “This is racing.”
