Crispy Skateboards is calling on Gauteng’s boldest and most creative visual artists to take part in an electrifying week-long art competition that honors raw expression, community, and the unfiltered grind of local artistry. Kicking off at midnight on Saturday, 26 April 2025, and running through to midnight on Thursday, May 1, the #CrispyArtChallenge is less about following rules and more about showing up with your truth.
Artists will have just under seven days to submit or create an original piece using their own materials and signature style—no restrictions, no limits, just pure, unedited creativity. Whether it’s brush strokes, inked lines, or mixed media, the canvas is whatever you make of it.
Who’s Behind the Movement?
Crispy Skateboards is more than just a skate brand—it’s a platform for collaboration. Known for tapping into the soul of the streets, Crispy works with local artists to amplify stories through visual art, design, and culture. Each project is an opportunity to shine a light on the talent that lives and breathes in South Africa’s urban spaces.
The Stakes?
At the close of the competition, three artists will be crowned winners:
- One handpicked by the Crispy Skateboards team
- One chosen by Origin Art Gallery
- And one voted for by the public
Each winner will receive a blank Crispy skateboard deck as their next canvas and the opportunity to assign their own price to their finished work—putting full control of value in the artist’s hands.
The Reveal
The winning decks will debut on 8 May 2025, at The “Not an Afterparty” at Democracy Bar in Illovo—a night packed with punk bands, live graffiti, skate ramps, and the very people who define the culture. Afterward, the boards will remain on exhibit for the entire month as part of the Motion and Expression exhibition at Origin Art Gallery, Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank.
