Molly Picklum’s Strong Campaign Continues

Australia’s Molly Picklum continued her impressive 2025 season, securing a second runner-up finish after a stellar run through the women’s draw. Finals Day began with Picklum taking down reigning world champion Caity Simmers in dominant fashion, highlighted by a 9.60 — the highest single-wave score in the women’s CT this year.

In the final, Picklum faced Bettylou Sakura Johnson, who started with an 8.00 before backing it up with a 9.00 to pile on the pressure. Picklum’s combined 14.23 fell short of overtaking the American, but the Australian held firm at No. 3 on the leaderboard, keeping her Final 5 hopes alive for a third consecutive year.

“I’m really happy with second place. This year I’ve been pushed inside and outside of the water like never before. Caity usually gets the better of me, so getting one over her was huge. Bettylou inspires me — every heat against her is exciting and fun. I’m so happy to be here.”

In the final, however, Yago Dora’s progressive surfing proved too strong. The Brazilian started with a spectacular 9.53, then added an 8.00 to apply early pressure. Igarashi responded with a 7.77 and later an 8.30 for a Kerrupt Flip, but it wasn’t enough. Dora sealed victory with an 8.37, ending with an air-reverse and claiming his second win of the season.

“We got blessed with amazing waves this week — thanks to the surf gods and all the fans. The team around me means everything, and it’s been an amazing year so far. We’re excited to keep pushing.”
