From Rental Rider to Road King: Corneille Salem Kalala’s Life Transformed by Honda Ace Win

2 Mins read

For Corneille Salem Kalala, a hardworking delivery rider with Woolworths Dash, this week was anything but ordinary. From renting a bike to owning a customised, brand-new Honda Ace CB150, Kalala has become the inaugural Ace African King of the Road, an accolade that brought more than just a title — it brought life-changing freedom.

Kalala emerged victorious from a pool of over 500 hopefuls in the highly competitive campaign created by Biker’s Warehouse. His win secured him a unique Honda Ace motorcycle and a year’s supply of premium Motul oil, both of which are invaluable to someone who has long relied on borrowed wheels to earn a living.

“This Honda Ace isn’t just a bike; it’s freedom, it’s security, and it means I can better support my mother and my family. My ancestors were definitely looking out for me today.”

Kalala said, visibly moved

Having previously rented a friend’s motorcycle, Kalala was meticulously saving every cent to purchase his own. His windfall means his savings can now go toward his family’s well-being — particularly his mother, whom he supports with every delivery made.

His triumph was also a tale of timing and trust.

“I was reminded about the event just before the draw. I felt like my ancestors were guiding me. I made a last-minute dash to attend, and when I picked the key that started the bike… it was a life-changing moment.”

Kalala said with a proud smile

The celebration extended beyond Kalala’s circle.

“The Ace African King of the Road competition was about celebrating delivery riders who work tirelessly each day. Corneille’s resilience and optimism are exactly what we hoped to spotlight.”

Helena Harrison, Motorcycle Sales Manager at Biker’s Warehouse, shared:

“The Honda Ace CB150 is designed for dependability and performance. Corneille’s story is proof of how this motorcycle can empower individuals who rely on two wheels to make a living.”

From Honda South Africa, National Sales Manager Paul Jacobs added:

“Seeing the joy on Corneille’s face is what it’s all about. With Motul protecting his new ride, he’s not just getting smoother performance — he’s gaining a foundation for a better future.”

And from Motul, Mercia Jansen, General Manager for Southern and Eastern Africa, said:

Kalala’s inspiring journey from rented independence to ownership glory is a powerful reminder that one moment, one opportunity, and one community-driven initiative can truly transform a life — turning a rider into a road king.
