In celebration of World BMX Day, Red Bull athlete Murray Loubser, one of Africa’s most progressive BMX street riders, has collaborated with acclaimed Soweto-born visual artist Fhatuwani Mukheli to create a limited-edition, custom-designed BMX frame that blends the worlds of extreme sports and visual storytelling.

This one-of-a-kind frame isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s a physical embodiment of identity, movement, and creative expression. Known for his smooth lines, impeccable flow, and humble nature, Loubser has built a reputation that spans continents—from constructing ramps in his hometown of Gansbaai to performing jaw-dropping tricks on the streets of Europe and the U.S. Now, he brings that same energy into a collaborative art piece with Mukheli, whose visual work has been showcased globally.

Mukheli, the co-founder of the creative collective I See A Different You, brings his deep connection to street culture, family, and self-expression into the artwork. His approach to the frame draws from personal experience:

“I’m a dyslexic guy who can’t really read well or spell, so when you’re drawing there’s no words… I find drawing very therapeutic and fun. Some [of the words] read freedom, some read hope, and it’s a beautiful collaboration that we did.”

“It’s kind of like painting. Like when you’re having an idea for a painting, you want to add this here and there. I love how we just approach it loosely to make waves or patterns.”

Loubser likens the artistic process to riding:

The result is a frame that’s as functional as it is meaningful—an abstract piece with bold colours and messages of freedom, hope, and resilience, designed not only to ride but to inspire. Sealed with gloss and finished with intention, this custom BMX frame tells a story that resonates across cultures and disciplines.

This collaboration is a celebration of BMX culture, a tribute to creativity, and a call to honour the craft and community behind the sport.

“I spend more time riding my bike than anything… it’s like comfort.”

As Loubser puts it,

That sense of belonging and purpose is now reflected in a piece of art that will roll through streets around the world.
