Tomac Makes Daytona History with Eighth Supercross Victory

Round 8 of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross season delivered a landmark moment inside the legendary Daytona International Speedway. On a historic night at “The World Center of Racing,” Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Eli Tomac became the most decorated racer in the venue’s storied 67-year history with his eighth Monster Energy AMA Supercross victory at Daytona.

The most unique setting in Monster Energy Supercross welcomed a
massive crowd to the high banks of Daytona International Speedway
for the 56th running of the Daytona Supercross.

The Colorado native broke a three-year tie with NASCAR icon Richard Petty, who holds seven Daytona 500 wins, further cementing Tomac’s legacy at one of motorsport’s most iconic venues.

450SMX Class: Tomac Takes Control

The 20 Minutes + 1 Lap Main Event began with Honda HRC Progressive’s Hunter Lawrence grabbing the holeshot, but Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki’s Ken Roczen quickly took over the lead. Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb slotted into third, with Tomac starting fourth behind his key championship rivals.

The fourth win of the season for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Eli Tomac
made him one of the most transcendent figures in motorsports history
at Daytona with eight victories at the iconic speedway.

Tomac wasted little time moving forward, dispatching Webb early and closing in on the lead duo. The top three remained separated by less than two seconds as they navigated Daytona’s evolving sandy, rutted surface.

Honda HRC Progressive’s Hunter Lawrence maintained his hold of the championship points lead with his fifth runner-up finish of the season.

Near the halfway point, Tomac made his decisive move. He first passed Lawrence for second before railing the outside line through an option lane to surge past Roczen and seize the lead with just over 12 minutes remaining. From there, Tomac methodically built a gap and never looked back.

Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki’s Ken Roczen led early on for the second week in a row and recorded his fifth podium result of the year.

Lawrence eventually reclaimed second from Roczen but couldn’t reel Tomac back in. Tomac crossed the line 1.3 seconds clear to earn his fourth win of the season and 57th career victory. Roczen rounded out the podium in third, followed by Webb in fourth and Joey Savatgy in fifth.

The result tightened the championship battle, with Tomac now just one point behind Lawrence. Roczen and Webb sit tied for third, 20 points off the lead.

“Somehow I’ve won eight of these. I just love this dirt and how this track develops. I had to work for it and went through all my main competition.”

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Seth Hammaker dominated the Eastern Divisional 250SMX Class Main Event with a wire-to-wire performance.

Behind him, a fierce battle unfolded as Cole Davies charged from ninth into podium contention, eventually moving into second after a late mistake from Shimoda in the sand section.

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies (37) made an impressive climb from ninth to second for his first podium finish of the season.

Hammaker remained composed out front and claimed his fourth career victory by 4.2 seconds over Davies, ending the Star Yamaha team’s unbeaten run in the 250SMX Class this season. Pierce Brown salvaged third to retain the points lead, while Shimoda finished fourth and Daxton Bennick completed the top five.

Championship Picture Intensifies

Daytona’s demanding conditions reshuffled momentum in both classes. Tomac’s historic triumph not only elevated him into the speedway’s record books but also tightened the 450SMX championship to a razor-thin margin. Meanwhile, Hammaker’s breakthrough victory added a new contender to the Eastern 250SMX title fight.
