DARKFEST 2026: Building the Falcon Heavy
The build for DarkFest continues to escalate in Stellenbosch, and Episode 3 of the build series reveals what could become the wildest jump in the event’s history.
In the latest update, Sam Reynolds and the crew begin constructing a massive new feature branching off the iconic Rocket Launcher. The new jump — dubbed Falcon Heavy — is an extension designed to deliver unprecedented airtime and push freeride progression even further.

A Jump Built for Maximum Airtime
Falcon Heavy is no ordinary feature. Built off the left side of the Rocket Launcher, the jump requires serious planning, precision shaping and an enormous amount of dirt moving. From drainage systems and irrigation pipes to carefully stacked rockwork and sculpted lips, every detail matters when constructing a jump of this scale.

With assistance from local experts providing drainage solutions and infrastructure, the team ensures the feature can handle both heavy rain and the intense riding that DARKFEST is known for.

Weather, Dirt and Perfect Conditions
After a night of heavy rain in the Jonkershoek valley, the crew returned to inspect the course — relieved to find the features intact. Instead of causing damage, the rain left the soil perfectly moist for shaping and compacting large landings.
The conditions created ideal building terrain, allowing the team to continue refining the giant lip and landing that will soon send riders flying across one of the biggest jumps ever attempted at DARKFEST.

Racing Break for the Crew
While construction continues, the crew briefly steps away from the diggers to support fellow rider Theo during the South African Downhill Championships. The muddy race conditions add another layer of excitement before the team heads back to the farm to continue shaping the evolving course.

A Feature That Could Redefine DarkFest
As the Falcon Heavy jump begins to take shape next to the Rocket Launcher, it’s clear that DARKFEST 2026 is pushing boundaries yet again. With the lip already towering and the run-in still being perfected, the feature promises massive speed, huge airtime and an unforgettable spectacle once riders arrive.

If the build progress is anything to go by, the 10-year milestone edition of DARKFEST could deliver the biggest sends the event has ever seen.
More build updates — and the riding itself — are coming soon.
