Ken Roczen Dominates Detroit as Title Fight Takes a Twist

Round 11 of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross season delivered one of the most dramatic nights yet inside Ford Field. With brutal track conditions and a punishing whoop section, the race pushed riders to their limits and reshaped the 450SMX championship battle.

At the center of it all was Ken Roczen, who delivered a commanding ride to secure his 25th career victory and reignite his title hopes.

Roczen Rises Above the Chaos

The 450SMX Main Event began with Jorge Prado grabbing the holeshot ahead of Roczen and returning contender Chase Sexton.

Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki’s Ken Roczen captured a milestone 25th victory in his 173rd career start amidst a shakeup in the title fight.

While Prado held strong early, Roczen applied steady pressure before making a decisive move for the lead just minutes into the race. Behind them, chaos unfolded as Cooper Webb collided with Prado, sending both riders down the order.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Chase Sexton captured an impressive runner-up finish in his first race back from a recent injury that sidelined him for a month.

Roczen quickly opened a gap, while Sexton settled into second in his comeback ride. Championship leader Hunter Lawrence fought through the pack to reach third, setting up a three-way battle at the front.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Malcolm Stewart broke through with his first podium finish of the season during his best outing of the year.

However, the race took a dramatic turn when Lawrence crashed hard in the demanding whoops section. The incident forced him into the mechanics area and dropped him a lap down, effectively ending his podium hopes.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Eli Tomac regained control of the points lead following a fifth-place finish.

Championship Shakeup

With Lawrence out of contention, Roczen capitalized and extended his advantage, eventually crossing the finish line 7.7 seconds ahead of Sexton.

Honda HRC Progressive’s Hunter Lawrence suffered two crashes in the Main Event and finished a lap down in 18th to lose control of the championship lead.

Malcolm Stewart delivered an inspiring performance to claim his first podium of the season in third, followed by Justin Cooper in fourth and Eli Tomac in fifth.

Lawrence managed to salvage 18th place despite multiple setbacks.

The result dramatically reshuffled the standings, with Tomac reclaiming the championship lead by four points over Lawrence. Roczen’s victory brings him within 14 points of the lead, setting up a thrilling three-rider title fight heading into the final rounds.

Davies Delivers Stunning Comeback in 250SMX

The Eastern Divisional 250SMX Class Main Event provided another highlight of the night, thanks to an incredible performance by Cole Davies.

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies overcame a start outside the top 10 to capture an impressive come-from-behind victory, his third in-a-row.

After a poor start that left him in 15th place, Davies carved his way through the field with exceptional speed, particularly in the demanding whoops section.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Seth Hammaker took advantage of a great start to lead laps and bring home a runner-up finish.

Early leader Nate Thrasher crashed out, handing the lead to Seth Hammaker, while Jo Shimoda slotted into second.

Davies quickly moved into podium contention before making a decisive pass on Shimoda for second. He then erased a four-second deficit to Hammaker and executed the winning move through the whoops with under six minutes remaining.

Honda HRC Progressive’s Jo Shimoda battled hard to capture a third-place finish.

From there, Davies pulled away in dominant fashion to secure his third consecutive win by an impressive 12.1-second margin.

Title Momentum Builds for Davies

Hammaker held on for second, while Shimoda rounded out the podium in third after a late battle with Coty Schock.

Davies’ remarkable run has extended his lead in the Eastern Divisional standings to nine points over Hammaker, with Shimoda now 14 points back.

All Eyes on the Final Stretch

Detroit proved once again that anything can happen in Supercross. Roczen’s resurgence, Lawrence’s misfortune, and Tomac’s return to the top of the standings have set the stage for an intense championship showdown.

With just six rounds remaining, the fight for the 2026 title is wide open—and momentum is shifting with every gate drop.
