The inaugural MoonPay X Games League (XGL) has officially launched, ushering in a bold new chapter for action sports after a record-breaking debut in Sacramento. With more than 52,800 fans attending across three days and over 12 million television viewers tuning in across the United States, the team-based competition has made an immediate impact on the global action sports landscape.
Held at Cal Expo, the opening round combined elite skateboarding, BMX and Moto X competition with live music performances from Kaskade, Mustard and Subtronics, creating one of the biggest X Games festivals in recent years.
Record Attendance and Broadcast Growth
The Sacramento opener attracted 52,851 spectators, marking the strongest post-pandemic attendance for X Games. Television audiences also surged, with U.S. linear viewership increasing by 21 percent compared to recent Summer X Games events.
Digital platforms mirrored that success, with YouTube views climbing 88 percent year-over-year, while online search interest doubled as fans embraced the new club-based competition format.
X Games CEO Jeremy Bloom praised the successful launch, saying the new league exceeded expectations by creating stronger competition, deeper fan engagement and a bigger platform for the world’s top action sports athletes.
Historic Performances Define Opening Weekend
The opening round produced one of the most progressive weekends in X Games history as athletes landed four never-before-seen tricks across multiple disciplines.
Australian sensation Arisa Trew dominated for X Games Club (XC) Tokyo, winning both Women’s Skateboard Park and Women’s Skateboard Vert Best Trick. Her latest victories also saw the 16-year-old equal the all-time women’s X Games gold medal record.
Representing XC São Paulo, fellow Australian Ryan Williams stunned fans by landing two groundbreaking BMX tricks, further cementing his reputation as one of the sport’s most innovative riders.
American Patrick Evans also made history by claiming Moto X Best Trick aboard the only electric motorcycle in the competition.
The next generation of stars also shone brightly. Japan’s Miyu Ito captured two women’s street skateboarding gold medals for XC Tokyo, while Brazil’s Gui Khury swept the men’s vert competitions. Meanwhile, 11-year-old Mia Kretzer announced herself on the world stage with victory in Women’s Skateboard Vert for XC Los Angeles.
Tight Championship Battle Begins
The new team format has immediately created an exciting championship race.
Following the Sacramento opener, the league standings are:
- XC Tokyo – 980 points
- XC São Paulo – 950 points
- XC New York – 950 points
- XC Los Angeles – 810 points
With just 30 points separating first and third place, every event could prove decisive as clubs battle for the inaugural MoonPay X Games League championship.
The championship concludes in New Orleans from 24–26 July, where the first-ever MoonPay X Games League champions will be crowned.
After a spectacular opening weekend, the MoonPay X Games League has already demonstrated its potential to redefine action sports through team rivalries, elite performances and a season-long championship that keeps fans invested from start to finish.
