Team South Africa Wins MXoAN 2026 as Africa’s Motocross History Continues

Team South Africa has done it again.

The reigning champions successfully defended their FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations title at Gallina Motocross Park in Windhoek, Namibia, finishing at the top of the MXoAN 2026 standings ahead of hosts Team Namibia and Team Uganda.

The final podium delivered a fitting conclusion to a weekend that celebrated not only competitive motocross, but 27 years of African motocross history.

With riders from across the continent converging on Namibia, MXoAN 2026 became another chapter in a championship built around national pride, teamwork and the development of motorcycle sport in Africa.

South Africa Holds the Crown

For Team South Africa, the result confirms its status as the benchmark in African national motocross competition.

The challenge was never simply about individual race victories. MXoAN is a team championship, meaning riders across multiple classes contribute to the overall national result.

That makes consistency, resilience and depth crucial.

South Africa ultimately delivered what was required to remain at the summit, while Team Namibia claimed second place on home soil and Team Uganda secured third.

For Namibia, the runner-up finish adds another significant moment to a weekend that marked the country’s return to hosting the championship.

A Championship 27 Years in the Making

The significance of MXoAN 2026 stretches well beyond this year’s results.

The first Motocross of African Nations championship was held in Zimbabwe in 1999 under the African Motorcycle Union, or AMU. The organisation that governed continental motorcycle sport later became known as FIM Africa.

Since then, the championship has travelled across the continent, giving different national federations an opportunity to host riders from neighbouring countries while exposing competitors to new tracks, conditions and racing cultures.

The MXoAN has become a meeting point for African motocross.

It is where national colours replace individual team identities, where young riders get an opportunity to compete on a continental stage and where federations can demonstrate their ability to develop and host international-level motorcycle competition.

Namibia Returns to the MXoAN Stage

The 2026 edition was particularly significant for Namibia.

The country last hosted the championship in 2009, when 110 riders representing seven nations competed for continental honours.

Seventeen years later, the MXoAN returned to Gallina Motocross Park with a substantially larger field, underlining the growth of motocross across Africa.

Around 180 riders were expected for the 2026 event, with ten nations forming part of a championship that continues to expand its reach.

For the local motocross community, hosting MXoAN provides more than a major race weekend. It puts Namibian facilities, officials, riders and organisational infrastructure under the continental spotlight.

More Than a Podium

The final results may read South Africa, Namibia and Uganda, but the real impact of MXoAN 2026 is much broader.

Riders, mechanics, officials, volunteers, sponsors and fans from different countries came together around a sport that continues to build momentum across Africa.

For young competitors, especially, MXoAN provides valuable exposure to international competition and a pathway towards higher levels of the sport.

That development is arguably one of the championship’s most important legacies.

From Zimbabwe in 1999 to Namibia in 2026, the MXoAN story continues to connect Africa through motocross.

Team South Africa leaves Windhoek with another championship crown. Namibia celebrates a major home-event success with second place, while Uganda completes the podium.

But the biggest winner may be African motocross itself.

Twenty-seven years after the first gate dropped, the championship remains alive, competitive and increasingly ambitious.

One continent. Multiple nations. One motocross championship.

And the story is far from over.
