The Dakar Rally’s bike section is known as the ultimate test of endurance, skill, and mental strength. The Journey
Anthony’s passion for two wheels began at the age of 10, when he first rode a 65cc bike.
“From day one, I was hooked. There was just something about the speed, the jumps, and the adrenaline that drew me in.”

By 2008, his natural talent caught the attention of professional teams, and by 2009, he had his breakthrough season — earning multiple podiums and third overall in both MX1 and MX2 categories.
“The biggest lesson from those years was consistency. It’s not just about winning — it’s about showing up every day, working through setbacks, injuries, and financial pressure.”

Over the years, Anthony has proudly represented South Africa internationally at the Motocross of Nations and secured multiple victories in India’s Supercross series.
“Racing with the South African flag on my back is an honour. Every country teaches you something new — it forces you to adapt, which has made me a stronger, smarter rider.”
The Shift to Rally Raid
After years dominating motocross and supercross circuits, Anthony sought a new challenge: rally raid racing. This discipline pushes riders to their limits through multi-day events involving navigation, strategy, and stamina.
“It’s night and day compared to motocross. You’re in the saddle for hours, navigating terrain you’ve never seen before. It’s about mental endurance as much as speed.”

Learning to interpret road book navigation — the system used in rally raids — has been a humbling experience.
“In motocross, you follow the track. In rally raid, you have to find your way. Reading a road book while riding fast takes patience and focus.”
The Dakar Dream
The 2026 Dakar Rally will push riders through over 5,000 km of desert dunes, rocky mountains, and extreme terrain. Anthony’s preparation involves endurance rides, mechanical training, and mental conditioning.
“Motocross gave me the foundation — balance, quick decision-making, and terrain reading. Those skills are now being tested in a new environment.”
