BYD ATTO 2 DM-i Countdown Begins

2 Mins read

Fresh from the successful introduction of the BYD ATTO 8 to the South African market, BYD Auto South Africa is preparing to expand its local range once again with the highly anticipated arrival of the all-new BYD ATTO 2 DM-i.

The latest addition to the brand’s growing new energy vehicle portfolio promises to deliver an exciting blend of electrified driving, advanced technology and everyday practicality, reinforcing BYD’s commitment to making sustainable mobility more accessible for South African motorists.

The ATTO 2 DM-i will feature BYD’s cutting-edge DM-i plug-in hybrid technology, designed to offer drivers the benefits of electric mobility while maintaining the flexibility and convenience required for longer journeys. The SUV will also be powered by BYD’s industry-leading Blade Battery, a technology globally recognised for its exceptional safety, durability and performance.

The new model arrives at a time when demand for hybrid and electric vehicles continues to grow in South Africa, with motorists increasingly seeking vehicles that combine lower running costs with reduced emissions and modern technology.

Nomonde Kweyi, Marketing Director at BYD Auto South Africa, says the company is eager to build on the positive reception its vehicles have received locally.

“The South African market has responded incredibly positively to BYD’s growing vehicle portfolio, and we are excited to continue building on that momentum with the introduction of the ATTO 2 DM-i. This is a vehicle designed for customers who want the benefits of electrified mobility without compromising on practicality, convenience or everyday usability. We look forward to sharing the full story with South Africans very soon.”

Although BYD has confirmed several key technologies, many important details remain under wraps. South Africans are still waiting to learn just how efficient the new plug-in hybrid SUV will be, where it will position itself within the increasingly competitive SUV market, and perhaps most importantly, its official pricing.

While the original launch was scheduled for 10 and 11 June 2026, today’s date of 28 June 2026 indicates that the unveiling should already have taken place. However, BYD Auto South Africa has yet to publicly release the official pricing and complete specifications through this announcement. Once those details are confirmed, the ATTO 2 DM-i is expected to become another key player in the brand’s expanding South African lineup.

As BYD continues strengthening its presence in South Africa, the ATTO 2 DM-i represents another important step in the company’s mission to deliver innovative, efficient and practical mobility solutions for the country’s evolving automotive landscape.
