Fire Up Your Controllers – The 2026 MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience Is Back!
South Africa’s gaming community is gearing up for one of the most exciting esports roadshows of the year as the MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience 2026 officially returns. Bigger, more inclusive, and more competitive than ever, this nationwide tournament series brings together casual players and seasoned competitors alike, all vying for glory and a share of the impressive R350,000 prize pool.
Now in its fourth year, the experience—presented by Hyprop Investments in partnership with MTN South Africa—will travel across eight major shopping centres from April through August. The journey culminates in the highly anticipated National Finals at Canal Walk Shopping Centre at the end of August.
A Nationwide Gaming Tour
The 2026 edition kicked off at Rosebank Mall and will continue its journey through some of the country’s most popular retail hubs, including Somerset Mall, Woodlands Boulevard, The Glen Shopping Centre, Table Bay Mall, Clearwater Mall, and Capegate Shopping Centre.
Each stop features an online qualifier followed by a three-day in-mall event, giving gamers from across the country multiple opportunities to enter and compete.
The Main Attraction: EA FC 26™
Football gaming fans will be drawn to the competitive action of EA Sports FC 26. The tournament structure includes 12 heats per weekend, with top players progressing to mall finals and ultimately to the National Football Final on 30 August.
The stakes are high, with a R50,000 prize pool up for grabs in the national showdown. Adding to the excitement, defending champion Hamza Moosa returns to defend his title against the country’s best.
Mall-level winners won’t leave empty-handed either, earning Hyprop gift cards valued at R2,500, R1,500, and R1,000.
Feel the Beat with Beat Saber
For those who prefer rhythm and virtual reality, Beat Saber brings a different kind of challenge. Hosted on MTN’s Battle+ platform, players compete for the highest score during each mall event.
Top performers advance to the Beat Saber National Final on 20 September, where another R50,000 prize pool awaits the top four finishers.
More Than Just Tournaments
The MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience goes beyond its headline competitions, offering a full spectrum of gaming entertainment. Each mall stop features a Fighting Cup with popular titles like Brawlhalla, Tekken 8, and Street Fighter 6.
Additional attractions include PC gaming zones, free-play stations, and interactive challenges like the Keyboard Rebuild Race—ensuring there’s something for everyone, whether competing or simply soaking in the atmosphere.
Building a Community Through Gaming
According to Hyprop, the goal of SHIFT is to bring esports closer to everyday South Africans by hosting events in familiar, accessible spaces. By turning shopping centres into competitive arenas, the initiative continues to grow a diverse and inclusive gaming community.
MTN echoes this vision, highlighting gaming as one of the fastest-growing passions in the country and positioning the SHIFT experience as a platform for connection, competition, and opportunity.
