The fifth round of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship, the Red Bull TKO, unfolded in dramatic fashion in Tennessee, USA. Over a day filled with three action-packed knockout races, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Manuel Lettenbichler emerged as the champion, marking his fourth victory of the 2024 season. However, it wasn’t just Lettenbichler who made headlines. South African riders Wade Young and Mathew Green also delivered impressive performances, securing valuable points in the championship standings.
Lettenbichler Takes the Crown in a Nail-Biting Finish
Manuel Lettenbichler continued his dominant run in the 2024 FIM Hard Enduro World Championship, clinching the top spot at Red Bull TKO. After winning Knockout Race #1 and placing third in Knockout Race #2, Mani delivered a masterclass performance in the final race. Despite intense competition from FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Trystan Hart, who led for much of the race, Lettenbichler’s strategic riding and well-timed overtakes saw him reclaim the lead in the final moments, crossing the finish line just five seconds ahead of Hart. This win solidifies his lead in the championship standings, extending his advantage to nine points over Wade Young.
Wade Young Battles to Third Place
Wade Young, riding for Red Bull Leader Tread GASGAS, showcased his skill and resilience throughout the Red Bull TKO event. After a strong start in Knockout Race #1, Young continued to push hard in Knockout Race #2, securing a place in the final showdown. In the decisive race, Young found himself in a tough battle against some of the sport’s top talents. Despite a few early mistakes, he quickly found his rhythm and began making up ground. Ultimately, Young finished third, just over a minute behind Lettenbichler and Hart, marking his second podium at the TKO. His performance earned him 17 valuable championship points, keeping him firmly in second place in the overall standings.
“This race was so fun, super intense as always, but I paced myself and found a good rhythm. I made a few mistakes in the beginning, but as soon as I got going and started catching people, it really motivated me. It’s my second podium here, and I always enjoy coming. A huge thanks to GASGAS USA for the support out here!”
Reflecting on his race, Young said,
Mathew Green’s Performance
While Mathew Green didn’t make it to the final knockout race, his performance throughout the earlier stages of the competition was notable. Green, who is still developing his experience at the top level of Hard Enduro, showed grit and determination, managing to compete strongly against a field of seasoned riders. His efforts in Tennessee demonstrate his potential and promise for future rounds.
Championship Standings Tighten
With two rounds remaining in the 2024 FIM Hard Enduro World Championship, the battle for the title is far from over.
