THE BIGGEST COURSE BUILD IN SWATCH NINES MTB HISTORY

Construction is nearly complete on the biggest build in the event’s history. Above the mountain resort town of Sölden, Austria, a massive freeride and slopestyle line thread their way down the slope, crossing multiple times before ending together at a colossal step-up feature.

The course is the result of a 9-month process that began with a design workshop in January 2024, where riders including Erik Fedko (GER), Sam Pilgrim (GBR), Lukas Schäfer (GER), Peter Kaiser (AUT) and Patricia Druwen (GER) put their heads together with Nines designers and partners to let their wildest feature ideas take form.

“To put it simply, we’re raising the standard. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience to build such extraordinary lines that are the result of many creative ideas from professional riders.”

says head builder and construction lead Simon Moratz

“For me the highlight is definitely the slopestyle line. It’s shaping up to be a super unique one, with lots of playful and creative features that leave room to express your riding style. Of course, we’ll also enjoy the freeride line. I think that’s the best thing about this event—you can just go from one bike to the other, and vice versa.”

says Peter Kaiser

COURSE BUILD QUICK FACTS:

  • 13,300 m2 area
  • 10-week construction phase
  • 21 builders, woodworkers and machine operators
  • 9 excavators, 2 chain dumpers, 1 screening plant
  • 10 years: Estimated lifetime of the setup

SETUP TO BECOME A PERMANENT PART OF BIKE REPUBLIC SÖLDEN

Designed in close collaboration with the athletes, the 2024 Swatch Nines course reflects the creativity and passion of the riders themselves. After the event concludes, the setup will be adapted for public use, and will open the following season as a permanent part of the Bike Republic Sölden bike park.

In cooperation with local and regional authorities, a comprehensive ecological restoration concept has been developed for the approximately 13,000 square-meter site. Particular attention has been paid to regreening the area.

“Our ambitious goal of building a course that is appealing from the rider’s point of view, and at the same time blends in with nature and the landscape in the best possible way, certainly led to some sleepless nights,”.

says Leo Linser, Project Manager of Bike Republic Sölden

TOP INTERNATIONAL STARS MEET HUNGRY UP-AND-COMERS

This year’s Swatch Nines MTB riders’ roster features a healthy mix of top talent from around the globe. The headliners on the women’s side include World Championships bronze medalist Tahnée Seagrave (GBR), Veronique Sandler (GBR/NZL) and Patricia Druwen (GER). For the men, Sam Pilgrim (GBR), Nicholi Rogatkin (USA) and 2024 Triple Crown of Slopestyle winner Dawid Godziek (POL) are among the many luminaries in attendance.

These internationally known stars will be joined by five up-and-coming riders who won invites via the Become A Nine video contest. They are: Lisa Marie Blanc (FRA), Morgan Antone (NZL), Chance Moore (CAN), Dylan Stark (USA) and Edgar Briole (FRA).
