HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT: Gymkhana Grid Is Back – With a New Format and Bigger Ambitions

Could South Africa Be the Next Stop for Gymkhana Grid Pursuit?

It’s official: Gymkhana Grid is back—and it’s back with a vengeance.

After a five-year hiatus and the heartbreaking loss of co-founder and motorsport icon Ken Block, fans around the world had their doubts about whether they’d ever see the tire-shredding madness of Gymkhana Grid again. But the wait is over. Rebranded as Gymkhana Grid Pursuit, the motorsport spectacle is reborn with a new energy, a new format, and new global ambitions.

What Is Gymkhana Grid Pursuit?

For the uninitiated, Gymkhana Grid is a head-to-head racing competition where two drivers tackle mirrored obstacle courses, showcasing a mix of drift skills, precision driving, and raw speed. Traditionally divided into all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive classes, the competition now adopts a handicap system, allowing for closer battles regardless of a car’s horsepower or drivetrain. That means a 150-horsepower car could go head-to-head with a 2,000-horsepower monster—with a fair chance at victory.

The only “rule”? Outrace your opponent using driver consistency and mental focus under pressure. It’s all about pursuit now—literally. The slower car gets a head start based on qualifying times, and the faster car has to chase them down. Pure thrill.

The New Course: Designed for Drama

Unlike the wider layouts of the past, Gymkhana Grid Pursuit is built for action-packed proximity. Drivers tackle a series of intense obstacles—from reverse entries around classic cars to high-speed slingshot corners and precision doughnuts around piñatas. Each section favours different drivetrain setups, keeping the competition dynamic and unpredictable.

Why It Matters: The Ken Block Legacy Lives On

This rebirth isn’t just about burning rubber—it’s a tribute to Ken Block’s vision, energy, and passion for motorsport. Gymkhana Grid inspired a whole new discipline of racing, and now that legacy is evolving. With Travis Pastrana onboard and the Hoonigan team more fired up than ever, the stage is set for a new chapter in motorsport entertainment.

Will Gymkhana Grid Return to South Africa?

Gymkhana Grid has graced South Africa twice before, with events that captivated thousands of motorsport fans and cemented the country as a key location in the event’s global journey. Now, with the fresh Pursuit format designed for tighter competition and more diverse vehicle entries, the question arises:
Will South Africa host Gymkhana Grid for a third time?

With its rich car culture, passionate fanbase, and love for adrenaline-fueled experiences, South Africa is a natural contender. No official word has been released yet, but fans are hopeful. The return of Gymkhana Grid could reignite the local motorsport scene and offer the perfect tribute to Block’s influence on South African soil.

Stay tuned. Gymkhana Grid Pursuit is here. The race has just begun—and we might be next on the map.
