Chance Hymas Breaks Through with Career-First 1-1 Sweep in 250 Class Honda Domination

The 2025 Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, rolled into Colorado for the Toyota Thunder Valley National—Round 3 of the summer and Round 20 of the SMX World Championship. The mile-high elevation of Thunder Valley Motocross Park, coupled with ideal weather following extended rain, set the stage for an unforgettable weekend.

In the 450 Class, Team Honda HRC Progressive’s Jett Lawrence fended off fierce competition to go 1-1 for the third consecutive event, reinforcing his perfect start to the season. His teammate Chance Hymas made it a Honda sweep by delivering a career-first 1-1 performance in the 250 Class.

450 Class Recap: Jett Lawrence Stays Perfect

Moto 1:
Jett Lawrence quickly moved to the front after brother Hunter Lawrence claimed the holeshot. Aaron Plessinger (Red Bull KTM) kept close tabs, while Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Justin Cooper (Yamaha) rounded out the top five. A late charge from Plessinger saw him briefly take the lead, but Jett battled back and held on for a hard-fought win. Tomac capitalized on a crash from Hunter Lawrence to finish third.

Jett Lawrence captured his 18th win in 19 starts with a fifth career 1-1 performance.

Moto 2:
The second moto was a chaotic start, with Coty Schock (ClubMX Yamaha) grabbing the holeshot. The Lawrence brothers and Cooper made quick work through the pack. An intense lead battle developed between Cooper and Jett Lawrence, with Jett eventually overtaking for the lead. Tomac mounted a challenge but tipped over late, giving Jett a comfortable win by over 11 seconds.

Eli Tomac’s anticipated return to his home race resulted in a runner-up effort.

450 Class Overall Results:

  1. Jett Lawrence (1-1) – Third straight overall win of the season and 18th of his career.
  2. Eli Tomac (3-2) – Strong second moto earned him runner-up honors.
  3. Aaron Plessinger (2-5) – Early form helped secure back-to-back podium finishes.

Championship Standings (450):

  • Jett Lawrence extends his lead to 25 points over Tomac.
  • Plessinger falls to third, 27 points behind.
  • Cooper Webb holds the top SMX seed with eight rounds remaining.

250 Class Recap: Chance Hymas Breaks Through

Moto 1:
Chance Hymas led from the gate drop, withstanding an early push from Haiden Deegan (Yamaha). As Deegan experienced mechanical concerns, Hymas pulled away for a commanding 45.6-second victory—his first career moto win.

Chance Hymas led the way every time the 250 Class took to the track at Thunder Valley.

Moto 2:
Hymas repeated his holeshot dominance and held off Deegan once again. Despite a late crash by Deegan, he retained second place. Behind them, Levi Kitchen (Monster Energy Kawasaki) stormed through the field to secure third in the moto and on the overall podium.

Haiden Deegan’s undefeated streak came to an end, but he showed championship-level resiliency amidst some adversity in a runner-up effort.

250 Class Overall Results:

  1. Chance Hymas (1-1) – First career 1-1 sweep and second career overall win.
  2. Haiden Deegan (2-2) – Maintains points lead despite ending his undefeated run.
  3. Levi Kitchen (8-3) – Back-to-back podiums after late-race heroics.

Championship Standings (250):

  • Deegan extends his lead to 25 points over Jo Shimoda.
  • Hymas jumps to third overall, 49 points behind.
  • Deegan also leads SMX regular season standings by 83 points.
