Ken Roczen Dominates Buenos Aires City GP Season Opener

2 Mins read

It was vintage Roczen in Buenos Aires as German motocross legend Ken Roczen stormed to victory at the 2025 World Supercross Championship season opener. Despite coming into the weekend battling illness, the 31-year-old delivered a flawless performance that reminded fans exactly why he’s one of the most respected riders in the sport.

Under the lights of a sold-out Oscar and Juan Gálvez racetrack, Roczen served up a clean sweep — taking Superpole, winning both sprint races, and sealing the deal in the main event. His dominance set the tone for what promises to be an electrifying championship season.

“I feel like I rode really well. There’s a fine line between pushing for speed and sliding out, but man, I had fun out there! The track was awesome, and I had an incredible night.”

Roczen said post-race

The Suzuki-powered Pipes Motorsport rider has battled through injuries in recent seasons but appears to have rediscovered his rhythm. His commitment to contesting all five rounds of the championship signals his determination to add another title to his already glittering career.

Deegan Delights on SX1 Debut

Another standout performance came from Haiden Deegan, who made his SX1 debut in style. Overcoming a clutch problem and a last gate pick, the young American fought his way to third in the main event, securing a podium finish and valuable championship points.

“I’ve dreamed of racing against Ken since I was a little kid. I had his jersey on my wall growing up, so just being on the same track as him is a huge accomplishment. The crowd here was insane — I love Argentina!”

Deegan said

Deegan’s resilience and poise under pressure have made him one to watch as the series heads to Canada for Round 2.

Anstie Aces SX2 with Commanding Display

In the SX2 class, Britain’s Max Anstie delivered a masterclass performance to claim Superpole and win all three races. The Team GSM Powered by Star Racing rider looked untouchable from start to finish, confirming his reputation as one of the most consistent and technically gifted racers in the field.

“It was a crazy night — Argentina fans are the best in the world. It feels great to be back racing at full strength after the injury setbacks.”

Canada’s Cole Thompson and Brazil’s Enzo Lopes also impressed, while Michael Hicks showcased the potential of the all-electric Stark bike by securing second in Superpole.

A Tough Night for McElrath

Quad Lock Honda’s Shane McElrath had a challenging evening, finishing second overall in SX2 despite mechanical struggles and the tricky track conditions.

“It was harder than it should have been. We’ve got work to do, but we’ll be ready for Vancouver next weekend.”

McElrath admitted

Looking Ahead

The Buenos Aires City GP delivered drama, precision, and world-class racing — a fitting opener for the 2025 World Supercross Championship. Roczen’s emphatic victory places him firmly in control heading into Round 2 in Vancouver on 15 November, but with the likes of Deegan, Cooper, and McElrath in pursuit, the season is far from over.
