UCI Downhill World Cup: Höll and Iles Shine in Leogang Thriller

Round three of the 2026 UCI Downhill MTB World Cup delivered spectacular racing in Saalfelden Leogang–Salzburgerland, Austria, as Vali Höll and Finn Iles emerged victorious after conquering one of the most challenging and unpredictable tracks of the season.

Following torrential rain that affected racing conditions throughout the weekend, riders faced a constantly evolving course that demanded precision, adaptability, and nerves of steel. While Höll produced a commanding performance in front of her home crowd, Iles secured an emotional victory in one of the closest Elite Men’s contests of the year.

Höll Continues Historic Winning Streak

Vali Höll once again proved why she is the dominant force in women’s downhill racing, securing her third consecutive UCI Downhill World Cup victory of the 2026 season.

The Austrian star delivered a near-perfect run, stopping the clock in 3:44.033 to finish an impressive 3.835 seconds ahead of France’s Marine Cabirou. American rider Anna Newkirk completed the podium in third place.

Competing in front of a passionate home crowd, Höll attacked every section of the course and recorded the fastest times throughout the track. Her margin of victory highlighted her superiority on the day as she powered through the technical sections with remarkable confidence.

The victory places Höll among an elite group of riders, becoming only the third woman in UCI Downhill World Cup history to start a season with three consecutive wins.

Historic Finale for Women’s Racing

Leogang marked a significant milestone for the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series, with the Women’s Elite race closing the programme for the first time in World Cup history.

The scheduling change provided greater visibility for women’s downhill racing and produced an electric atmosphere as thousands of fans remained on-site to witness the final battle of the day.

Höll embraced the occasion, feeding off the energy of the Austrian supporters as she stormed to another memorable victory.

Iles Returns to the Top

In the Elite Men’s category, Finn Iles produced a determined and composed performance to secure his second career UCI Downhill World Cup victory.

The Specialized Gravity rider completed the course in 3:15.647, edging Amaury Pierron by just 0.176 seconds in one of the closest finishes of the season.

After battling injuries and inconsistency in recent years, the victory represented a major personal milestone for the Canadian, who credited his team and offseason preparation for helping him return to winning form.

Consistency Proves Key

Unlike Höll’s dominant display, the men’s race was decided by fine margins. Both Iles and Pierron had battled through difficult qualifying sessions but rose to the occasion when it mattered most.

Iles may not have been the fastest rider in every sector, but his consistency across the entire course allowed him to hold off the charging Pierron.

Young German rider Henri Kiefer delivered another breakthrough performance, securing third place and finishing less than a second behind the winner to claim his first Elite World Cup podium of the season.

Meanwhile, Troy Brosnan continued his impressive run of form with a strong fourth-place finish.

Championship Battle Intensifies

Although Pierron narrowly missed out on victory, his second-place finish was enough to move him to the top of the Elite Men’s overall standings.

The French rider now leads Iles by 29 points, setting up an exciting championship battle as the season progresses.

In the Women’s standings, Höll’s dominance has created a significant gap over her rivals, with the Austrian carrying enormous momentum into the next round.

Next Stop: Austria’s Biggest Bike Region

The UCI Enduro World Cup returns this weekend in Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, Austria’s largest bike region.

With Höll chasing a fourth consecutive victory and Pierron and Iles locked in a fierce battle for the men’s title, the 2026 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series continues to deliver world-class action and unforgettable moments.
