Vans Drops Pearlized Versions of Two Skate Icons – And They’re Built to Turn Heads

2 Mins read

If there’s one thing Vans knows better than anyone else, it’s how to keep a legend fresh without messing with what made it iconic in the first place.

The latest Pearlized Collection does exactly that, giving the Classic Slip-On and Old Skool 36 a bold new attitude that blends skate heritage with premium street style. The result? A drop that feels just as comfortable posted up at the skatepark as it does making a statement on the city streets.

Leading the release are the Classic Slip-On Pearlized in Indigo and Black/Camo, joined by the Old Skool 36 Pearlized in Black/Navy and Bronze. Clean? Definitely. Ordinary? Not even close.

The first thing you’ll notice is the detail.

Pearls. Crystals. Distressed finishes. Every pair looks like it’s already lived a few stories, road trips, late-night sessions, beat-up skateparks and everything in between. Instead of looking factory fresh, these kicks have personality. They feel like they’ve been customized over time, worn hard and made your own.

That’s the beauty of Vans. It’s never been about keeping your sneakers spotless. It’s about what happens while you’re wearing them.

The Classic Slip-On has been holding it down since 1979. What started as a straightforward skate shoe quickly escaped the skatepark and became part of music, fashion and street culture around the world. Simple, timeless and impossible to ignore.

Then there’s the Old Skool 36.

Before it became one of the biggest names in sneakers, it was changing skateboarding forever. Released back in 1977, it introduced the now famous Sidestripe™. A design detail that’s recognized almost anywhere in the world. Decades later, it’s still one of the cleanest silhouettes Vans has ever made.

This latest Pearlized version keeps that DNA intact but turns up the premium factor. Expect elevated materials, refined stitching, glossy sidewalls and a more comfortable fit that doesn’t lose the authentic Vans feel.

If the Pearlized look sounds familiar, that’s because the previous releases disappeared almost as quickly as they landed. Collaborations like the OTW by Vans x SATOSHI NAKAMOTO Pearlized Old Skool, along with the Marshmallow and Fuchsia editions, sold out fast, making this new drop one worth keeping on your radar.

Whether you’re landing tricks, filming clips with your crew, heading to a gig or just putting together a fit that speaks for itself, these aren’t sneakers that blend into the crowd. They’re made for people who live the culture, not just wear it.

The Classic Slip-On Pearlized is priced at R2,999, while the Old Skool 36 Pearlized comes in at R3,999.

Both silhouettes are available from 3 August on Vans.co.za and at selected Vans stores across South Africa.
