The National Cross Country Championship never fails to deliver nail-biting excitement and intense competition amongst riders. Round 3 of the championship, held at the Scholtz farm near Vryburg, was no exception. Let’s dive into the thrilling results of this action-packed event.

Davin Cocker from Husqvarna Racing put on an exceptional performance at the third round of the championship. Throughout the day, Cocker engaged in a fierce battle for the lead with Scott Heygate. Despite facing challenges like a pit stop pass and a tumble in the thorns during the fourth lap, Cocker’s fighting spirit was undeniable. He managed to secure a strong second place in his class and second overall position.
“I had a good battle with Scott. Just unfortunate that I couldn’t catch up to him due to all the dust. I was really happy with my ride and my performance, and I’m looking forward to the next round.”
commented Cocker
Another Husqvarna rider, Luke Walker, faced a rough start to the day with two crashes during the time trial. Despite this setback, Walker adapted his strategy for the main race. Focusing on avoiding injuries in the dusty conditions and navigating the competitive field, he secured a fourth-place finish in the OR3 class.
“I tried to preserve myself and not get hurt due to all the dust and riders being quite close to each other in the first lap. I pushed a bit after gaps started to form. I am happy with my day as I managed to get a few points and not fall too far behind in the championship. I know what I need to work on and am excited to get to the next round.”
explained Walker
The Brother Leader Tread KTM team had a stellar performance at the third round of the National Cross Country Championship. Scott Heygate secured his second Open Class victory of the season and second overall win, while Matthew Wilson claimed his second OR3 victory.

Heygate’s strategic two-lap fuel plan paid off as he battled fiercely with Davin Cocker for the lead. Ultimately, Heygate emerged victorious, showcasing exceptional riding skills and determination.
“We took a chance, and it delivered. It was an incredible ride with Davin, pushing each other to the limit. I am so chuffed to walk away with another overall win and class win and so grateful for the Brother Leader Tread KTM Team and Uncle Kevin behind me.”

It was a bittersweet day for Brad Cox and Kerim Fitz-Gerald. Both riders faced fuel-related setbacks that forced them to retire early from the race. Despite the challenges, Cox remains optimistic about his upcoming participation in Argentina‘s DESAFIO RUTA 40 YPF INFINIA Rally.
“Not the best weekend for me. I started the day off strong but sadly, the race ended early on for making a calculated error and running out of fuel. I still felt good on the bike and getting there after my injuries of the beginning of the year. I will be away for two weeks in Argentina which is sure to keep me fit and on point, but I am already looking forward to Upington.”
