The 2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup season roared to life in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, with French veteran Loïc Bruni and Britain’s Tahnée Seagrave conquering a challenging downhill course through unpredictable weather, including rain and snow, to claim the opening round victories.

Bruni Holds Nerve to Edge Out Rivals in Men’s Final
Four-time World Cup downhill champion Loïc Bruni proved his class once again with a razor-thin win in the Elite Men’s race. After topping the qualifying times, Bruni watched as compatriot Amaury Pierron laid down a strong time before Ireland’s Oisin O’Callaghan raised the stakes with an electrifying run of 3:05.023. But Bruni, 31, held his nerve, navigating the muddy and slick terrain to clock in at 3:04.867, snatching victory by just 0.156 seconds.
“Last season was a bit stinky with finishing so close to the win,. The weather was far from my favourite conditions, but I just kept riding. I had to give everything.”
Bruni reflected
With the win, Bruni equals legendary Nicolas Vouilloz with 44 career podium finishes, cementing his place among downhill’s elite.

Seagrave Shines in Slippery Conditions to Take Women’s Victory
In the Elite Women’s race, Tahnée Seagrave delivered a gritty performance at Szczyrk Mountain Resort, navigating the icy and rain-soaked track to begin her 2025 title campaign with a commanding win. The Brit built an early lead, riding aggressively despite brake issues in the cold. Her time of 3:34.340 was enough to hold off American Anna Newkirk, who finished 1.711 seconds back, and Germany’s Nina Hoffmann in third.
“Because of the conditions, my brakes weren’t working very well, so I kept pumping the brake to make it work. I feel the healthiest I have been and I’m ready to give it my all again.”

Returning from a string of serious injuries, Seagrave’s win signals a strong comeback and an early warning to her rivals in this year’s championship race.
