Wade Young misses this year’s Red Bull Erzbergrodeo after suffering an ankle injury that required surgery.
The South African hard enduro star revealed on Instagram that he fractured bones in his ankle following what he described as a “silly crash” the other weekend. Despite the setback, Young showed his trademark determination by finishing the race and claiming victory before seeking medical treatment.

According to Young, the ankle has been a recurring issue over the past year, limiting his movement. He had delayed surgery because the injury had not previously forced him to miss races and was manageable during competition.

Unfortunately, the latest crash worsened the condition, making surgery unavoidable. The successful operation saw two titanium screws inserted to repair the damaged ankle.

As a result, Young was unable to compete at the prestigious Red Bull Erzbergrodeo and is also expected to miss the upcoming Silver Kings event while he recovers.

Despite the disappointment, Young remains optimistic about his comeback, thanking fans for their support and expressing his determination to return to full strength as soon as possible.

The focus now shifts from racing to rehabilitation, with supporters around the world hoping to see one of hard enduro’s toughest competitors back on the bike in the near future.
